As part of the Oregon Ducks' 2026 recruiting class that ranked No. 2 in the country, two linebackers were brought on: four-stars Braylon Hodge and Tristan Phillips.

With sights already turned to the 2027 class, the Ducks are among the five teams that four-star linebacker Jalaythan Mayfield is considering. Landing Mayfield would be a significant step in adding more depth and talent to the linebacker room, a position that head coach Dan Lanning and his staff haven't turned to the transfer portal for in recent years, instead opting to develop talent in-house.

Mayfield is the No. 8 linebacker and No. 165 player nationally, per 247 Sports Composite out of Lincolnton, NC. He competes for Lincolnton High School and is the No. 8 player in the state.

Included alongside the Ducks in the 6-foot-1, 215-pound linebackers final five is Miami, Kentucky, Indiana and Georgia.

During the 2024 season as a sophomore, Mayfield was excellent, totaling 109 tackles and 10 sacks while forcing two fumbles.

If he were to commit in the near future, he'd join three-star Sam Ngata as the second linebacker to join the Ducks as part of the 2027 class, of which Oregon currently has four total commits.
