Four-star linebacker recruit Jalaythan Mayfield is ready to announce his commitment. The elite class of 2027 prospect will announce his commitment on July 17. The Georgia Bulldogs are competing with four other college football programs to land Mayfield's services at the next level.
Mayfield plays high school football for Lincolnton High School in Lincolnton, North Carolina. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound linebacker will decide among Georgia, Indiana, Oregon, Miami and Kentucky on his commitment date.
"Today's the day you've all been waiting for," Mayfield said upon announcing his commitment date. "Tune in July 17 at Lincolnton High School gymnasium."
Rivals ranks Mayfield as the No. 204 recruit in the country in the 2027 cycle. He's the No. 18 linebacker and the No. 10 prospect in North Carolina.
Georgia's Kirby Smart and Glenn Schumann are recruiting Mayfield hard. The four-star recently visited Georgia for a spring practice in March. Mayfield has said that he loves being in Athens and is impressed with the production Georgia gets out of linebackers. He will return to Georgia for an official visit.
The elite linebacker recruit recently visited the Kentucky Wildcats on March 28, calling his trip to Lexington the "best visit yet" with Kentucky. Kentucky made it known that Mayfield is a priority recruit for them. Mayfield will also visit the Miami Hurricanes on April 3.
Mayfield is coming off an elite junior season with Lincolnton. He was named as the conference defensive player of the year after recording 152 tackles (includes 26 tackles for a loss), six sacks, six forced fumbles, a blocked punt and a blocked field goal. He also contributed 13 rushing touchdowns and 343 rushing yards on offense.
Mayfield has excellent speed and does a good job of hustling in pursuit of opposing ball carriers. The Lincolnton star is willing to contribute on special teams and projects as an off-ball linebacker in college.
