So if Kyler has played his last game, what’s the strategy for next year? Draft a qb and roll with Brissett as a bridge QB for one more year?

The free agent class is weak. There are no Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones of the world coming available. The only one somewhat intriguing is Mac Jones. If you are really desperate, there’s Trey Lance.

It seems like they will have to draft a qb, and by my estimations there are at least 4 teams who would take a qb if their guy is there before we’re on the clock:

1. Saints
2. Jets
3. Miami?
4. Browns?
5. Raiders?
6. Rams?

Honestly, Cards may be screwed at the position for a couple seasons.

If the Browns have to select a QB in the first round again........my God.

See what it takes to get Burrow if the Bengals are ready to blow it up, kick the tires on Stroud if we think we can “fix” him. Purdy homecoming? Who’s the next Baker Mayfield? Who’s the next Sam Darnold? Who’s the Carson Palmer of this decade? Not a lot of guys in college I’m in love with, Mendoza looks decent but he’s likely top of the pile and will be drafted high. I do like Pavia but that kinda feels like all of the same issues we had with Kyler.

I wouldn’t be mad at Mac Jones the way he’s looked this year… Almost a 95 QB rating two to one touchdown to interception ratio has looked good when I’ve watched the Niners. And most of that was with Kittle out Ricky Pearsal out out and Juwan jennings out. 67% completion percentage. You could do worse.

Could Petzing make him look as good as Shanahan is the million dollar question there?

Garappolo looked good in Shanny’s system and stunk it up elsewhere.

I don't quite get the Browns being on any list looking for a QB. I watched a couple of Brown games and Gabriel hasn't gotten any help from his WRs or TEs. Both games, there was multiple drops on passes that would have kept drives alive on very catch-able balls. I could see the Browns rolling with Gabriel for the foreseeable future.

Mac Jones is under contract next year. Not sure why SF would trade him to us.

I’d imagine Burrow, Stroud & Purdy are untouchable.

And Mendoza should be the first qb drafted at this rate

There will not likely be more than 3 QBs worth a top 6 pick or even top 10. Most of the teams you’ve listed have multiple major needs. They won’t reach and ignore those needs. They might trade down and be something of a problem. The Cards pick is likely to be at around 12. Beyond RT they have no other major needs and that may be solve able via FA or trade. At 12 they would have a shot at several interesting QB options who would not be immediate starters. The trick is can they guess which one is the right one?

If Monti and JG survive all of this, they do not have the luxury of taking a rookie qb and NOT being good. They haven’t earned the right in year four to have another “throw away” season. The only plausible options:

A) Hope and pray JB somehow plays good starting over a 2 year stretch - which is banking on him to do something he’s never done before.

B) Back up the brinks truck and sign Daniel Jones.

C) Keep Kyler for one more year as insurance even if he doesn’t start. His contract will be much easier to swallow after the 2026 season.

Jacoby until the 2027 draft.
Not sure they would draft high enough to get an immediate starter. Brissett would be older and need to be extended. The biggest problem of all is looking at who’s not under contract several new needs would emerge and be hard to fill. That would cause several more years of struggling. With only RT being an additional 2026 need, the Cards are in best position to take a shot then.

That’s why purgatory is my worst fear for every team I root for.

As you look ahead to 2026 keep in mind the Cards will play a brutal schedule. The NFC West draws the AFC North. I don’t want a first year starter facing that.

Pittsburgh has an 87 year old QB, the Browns are awful and the Bengals are a shell of a team.

Double team Garrett, Hendrickson will be gone.

You have to give up something to get something, make a trade, move up, question is, how much is Monti willing to give up in draft capital?
I bet montis voicemail will sound like this…”open for business ….desperate for a quarterback….Walter nolen will not be part of any trade package “ “ have a nice day”
