As we await the start of training camp, we are finally starting to see player and position rankings. PFF ranked the 32 projected starting quarterbacks for the coming season, which will always lead to discussion.

The Arizona Cardinals' projected starter is Jacoby Brissett. How much respect does he get?

Brissett gets almost no love. He comes in at No. 31 out of 32, ahead of only Cleveland Browns starter Deshaun Watson, who has been abjectly terrible recently.

Brissett is in the middle of a contract dispute with the Cardinals, as his $1.5 million guaranteed for 2026 is less than what his backup, Gardner Minshew II, is set to make. At 33 years old, Brissett is the definition of a bridge quarterback. He can provide solid play at the position, but he won’t win enough games to prevent his team from landing a top draft pick.

Brissett is at his best when he plays on time. He finished seventh among qualifying quarterbacks in PFF passing grade on throws released in under 2.5 seconds (82.7) last season. On throws released after 2.5 seconds, he ranked 29th in PFF passing grade (57.3).

Brissett racked up career numbers, passing for 3,366 yards and 23 touchdowns, both career highs. However, they went 1-11 when he started and, once he was no longer holding the job for Kyler Murray, they went 0-9. He put up solid numbers in volume, but roughly a third of his stats came from trailing by three or more scores. He had six potential game-winning scenarios at the end of games and failed in all six.

He is a career 20-45 starter who wants more money, and if he were to start the whole season, that would sense. But he and Minshew are basically the same player, and the Cardinals drafted Carson Beck, who will certainly start at some point if the Cardinals are as bad as they are expected to be.
