the case for Caleb Downs

the 'new' trend is heavy personnel -12 or 13 personnel -- and if the D matches heavy, the offense throws. If they go light, they offense runs.

for defense, the need is for safeties who can play the run like a 3rd LB but cover effectively.

does it justify taking a safety at 3? i dunno, but an outstanding do-it-all safety is becoming more important

Moore staying at Oregon really stirs things up for the draft.
Does Kyler become a more desirable trade asset or do we get another year of him as our starting QB?
I can't see a path to us not sucking in 2026. This was apparent before Moores decision but between this and 9 HC openings and mid draft it's looking like another tank job.

Is downs a playmaker (aka Ed Reed)? If so, as much as I’d hate taking a safety that high, I’d do it if Mendoza and Reese are gone. I’d consider love.
I'd consider Love right now. It's an offensive league, and Love looks like a special runner.

Look at how much Gibbs has meant to the Lions.

I get it, but we do not have the offense line to get the most out of him. People gonna crash out when he runs for 825 yards his rookie year getting 60% snaps and averaging 3.8 yards per carry.

EDIT: At this point in time, it would be a perfect example of an organization lacking self awareness.

If only he had Notre Dame’s blockers
