Man, I disagree with this take. Some of those Seahawks defenses just never really got beaten at all. I think a truly great defense only gives the offense a few opportunities to score throughout the entire game.

I think it's hard to have a great defense and takes a lot of resources to get there and that's why it's rare that you ever see a truly great defense.
On a player by player basis you’re just wrong. If a great quarterback and a great receiver execute a play flawlessly even flawless coverage by a great cornerback is still going to fail because a perfectly placed pass lands out of reach of perfect coverage. We see it all the time where we are amazed a pass squeezes into a tight hole. The reality is that great defense just makes offensive success incredibly more difficult, it doesn’t make it impossible. .

But that's not football. There are pass rushers and coverage help.

The truly great defenses just dominated even really good offenses, because if you rarely give up big gains, offenses are forced to make like a dozen plays to score.

The 2013 Seahawks gave up 14 points per game.

the defense is flying around and smothering everything!
Except….that has been the topic of camp so far. The DL causing havoc & back 7 playing good coverage.

It’s either one way or the other. If there was a gigantic title that said “CARDINALS DEFENSE MAKING GREAT PLAYS AND DOMINATING”, you wouldn’t spin the narrative or even have a concern about the offense? I find that very hard to believe from you. This isn’t even about defending Kyler, this is more about praising the defense if anything.

It's good practice and this is the time to make mistakes. Time to also try to get down the field and practice it a lot. It's against Will Johnson and a solid secondary, good DL. I'm actually encouraged Kyler and the offense are practicing against what appears to be a top 10, top 12 with room to grow defense. And trying to get down field on them. This is how teams improve; they go thru the ups and downs of facing a pretty good defense.

Perfecting the craft? He threw an under ten yard cross behind the receiver.

Well if he leads him the defender to Kyler's right is going to light up McBride. So he threw it where he did to protect McBride. In fact worst case scenario if he leads him the defender jumps in front for the pick.
