Wonder how the game would look if there were less “here’s $100,000,000 dollars guaranteed, now go win us some games” and more “here’s $25,000,000, and if you play really good here’s another $25,000,000” contracts?

been thinking about the wj contract - not only did he drop a round but the reason/concern is a shortened career - I mentioned it earlier but it also means wj likely has a smaller windows to get paid

i hope monti can be creative here during negotiations - if there were ever a time for an incentive laced contract i think this is it - we want the aggressive wj that should've gone on the first round - not a guy who's trying to last as long as he can

crazy stupid incentives - like get 5 picks during the regular season and here's this giant ass pile of cash - keep top teir receivers under 50 yards and here's this giant ass pile of cash - if they're afraid to even throw it your way - giant ass pile of cash

idk - i think this kid might be special
Can't do that anymore. Each team has a rookie pool allocation based on draft slots. There is little to no wiggle room aside from off set language now and guarantees in the first round. He will be eligible for an extension a full season earlier now though, so that actually could help him.

I’m saying after this year, the Cards top 4 CBs are going to be Johnson, Williams, Melton, and Burke.

And that will be a top 10 group. It does seem I like I’m forgetting someone young though. Not Bunting.

Decent Madden rating so you know he's solid, though Im particularly worried that he isn't a very good play action passer (14).
Uhhh, I'm not so sure....

On one hand, he didn't produce any FF scores, so that would indicate that he's horrible.

BUT! on the other hand. He haven't had the magical 64 starts, which is the new benchmark for being past his prime, so we should be all good!

I wonder what his DVOA is? Combine DVOA and Madden Ratings and we'll get a true picture of what kind of a player he is.

Strikes me as a waste of time. I know of no major character concerns. If anything the opposite seems true. As far as speed; timed speed and game speed are widely recognized as separate entities. He not going to win races, but he seldom allows a receiver to run a clean route. He also is one of the best CBs I’ve seen at route recognition. He’s fast enough to typically be in the right position to make a play. Johnson was the best CB in college at playing zone. His quick response to zone penetration made this system work very effectively. If you’re worried about illegal contact, I don’t think after a couple of games that penalties will be a problem.

If the QB makes a mistake, he’s a great ballhawk. He fearlessly undercuts routes. When he gets the ball he knows what to do with it. He should start immediately. I think his play will encourage the other CBs to play more aggressively. I excited to likely see an entirely different level of play from the CBs. Thomas, for one, will have to attack more regularly to get on the field.

That 4.3 speed isn't necessary in the zones we play anyway. It will only hurt him in chase situations.
His route recognition, eyes, and closing speed are pretty solid.
The pick has grown on me

Not at the time. we didnt know about the SMB situation and the DB room was pretty crowded....so I never did any research on corners except a couple quick glances at scouting reports in passing...and I read two reports that mentioned Johnson had stiff hips and was a liability in man coverage.. Also, I was certain our top 3 picks were going to be some combination of DT/EDGE/OG.....drafting yet another corner seemed like a luxury pick we could not afford to make.
Really kinda still does when you put too much thought into our current offensive line situation.... or even our EDGE room really...at 47 there were a a few really good O Line players,...as well as a few pass rushers who would have been upgrades over Barron Browning

But the kid gets results and its very possible the knee injury two years ago then the ensuing hamstring and toe could explain the stiff hip report as they all affect movement...and we really do not employ man coverage..and getting drafted by us is probably the very best case for Johnson..if he is ever going to shine...become an all pro type player...this defense is the best one for him. If you are looking system specific he is a perfect match for an outside corner in Rallis' system
