Several people are thinking this will be an odd year for QBs draft-wise unless something changes. Instead of 3 or 4 being grouped atop round 1, Mendoza stands alone at one. Moore is top 5 unless he has another bad day. On raw ability Sellers is still round one but all over the place. Mateer is end of one or more top of 2. A few have Simpson end of one, but most round 2. Others getting discussed for 2 are Nussmeier and Klubnik.
This makes KM more valuable on the market, but also a crappy time for the Cards to draft a QB.

Klubnik, Mendoza, nussmeir sellers leavitt or Allar. Who ya got?
I like Hoover as well.

Klubnik is a no for me.

I like Mendoza but he will be gone.

Sellers and Allar are similar as they are both very raw and I don't love the coaching they seem to have received in college.

Nussmier is meh.

Leavitt just plays too out of rhythm for me. Maybe he can play with timing but I don't feel like I have seen it yet.

I need to see more snaps from Simpson and Moore to be comfortable with either of them.

It will be interesting to see how all these QBs iron out during the combines. You can be sure some will fall and others will rise maybe dramatically.

I will be watching more of Simpson and Moore as well. Klubnik had a good 2024 but this year not so much. I just don’t see a franchise guy out there.

For me, when watching QBs, I tend to just focus on the basic stuff. The franchise stuff will generally stand out but it's becoming more rare as these guys aren't being coached on some of it.

John Mateer is so damn selfish for playing yesterday knowing damn well he didn’t fully recover.

I wish folks would stop acting playing through injury demonstrates toughness when it is selfish.
Disagree.

Why is Moore top 5 unless he has a bad game? That makes no sense to me. He's either top 5 or he's not.

Players have bad games. His talent is ranked top 5 or it isn't.

Worked out well for Oklahoma.
Their best chance was Mateer playing. He could play, they lost. That happens.

That doesn't drop his draft stock. Which is the point of this thread.

I like Hoover and touted him earlier. He would have to sit at least most of year one.

You usually write off a bad game. Indiana wasn’t bad, but it was great either. Rising up to play the top teams is critical. If it happens again it’s an indicator. Several of these guys can make the throws and elude the rush. However, can they do it when something big is on the line, that’s when guys make their money. Go back and watch Montana’s Cotton Bowl.

This is a black and white statement.

The reality is MUCH more nuanced. A broken thumb on a QB doesn't stop him from taking the field, but it sure can stop a high level performance of the basic functions of his job. That can be construed as selfish. It probably depends ultimately on depth. If you don't have a QB in the wings who you think gives you even a chance, in that match up specifically... well... who knows.

If Gannon goes, there’s less pressure to trade Murray. I still think he gets a first. That said considering the pool and where I think the Cards are headed for a top pick, they can get a QB prospect without trading.
