NaL, but what would be the cause unless he’s copyrighted the misspelling of “Maserati Marv”

They're profiting off his likeness. I guess the rub is to prove it's his likeness. MHJ can be anyone. His knee is covering up the 18. They probably mispelled Maserati on purpose. They're really towing the line.

Going back to business law in college, I remember some kind of common sense clause that can apply to things. If a person of sound mind and body, not under the influence, not under coersion, etc, can look at something and immediately identify the intentions... I don't know if that applies here though.

Marvin Harrison Jr. has Fanatics deal despite no NFLPA agreement

Even though Arizona Cardinals rookie Marvin Harrison Jr. has not signed the NFLPA's group licensing agreement, which would allow the players' association to market his name, image and likeness to more than 80 companies, the star wide receiver has a separate, individual memorabilia deal in place with Fanatics, a source told ESPN on Friday.

That deal, which Harrison signed before his last season at Ohio State, is worth more than $1 million and is for autographs, signed trading cards, game-worn apparel and other marketing opportunities, the source said.

However, Harrison is trying to renegotiate the deal for more money and is trying to use the fact that he has not yet signed the group licensing agreement as leverage, the source added. By not signing the NFLPA agreement, Harrison cannot be part of a large number of marketing deals. For example, he can't have Nike produce his Cardinals jersey -- which would then be sold at various outlets including Fanatics -- and he can't be in the Madden NFL video game.

Harrison's team maintains no deal was ever signed. I guess thats how I got confused.

What's muddy is that it doesn't appear to be a full contract. It was for autographs and memorabilia and things like that. Not for jersies and such. At least thats how it reads to me...even from Fanatics pov.

A couple of people have wondered why we care about his contract... I don't, I'd just like a jersey!
Yeah, and it's ridiculous to scream out "Who cares?!" when it is a topic on all kinds of sports programs, sites, and podcasts and has been printed in stories all around the USA and even in worldwide publications like the Mirror, etc. It's a huge sports story.

Probably getting more attention, because FB wise we are in a slow time of year. As a Cardinals fan, I'm hoping for some news/videos from the OTA's. MHJ's contract, imo, will soon be yesterday's newspaper.

You think Marv puts a cease and desist on this? I can't imagine he met with Bo and Johnny and ironed out a deal.

I hate that nickname for MHJr. Hope it dies in the NFL.

Plus I’ve heard zero people call him mazzarati marv. This is all dumb. If he doesn’t get jerseys sold because he’s shackled to fanatics and their merch then wheeewwee doggie. They might as well just release new product right at goodwill.

He has no agent. Daddy's running things for him.

Weird way to say that Marvin Harrison Jr is represented by Marvin Harrison Sr. It's not like Marvin Harrison hasn't spent the last 30 years around the NFL and made over $67 million from just form football.

"He's in a much different boat because of his father. Marvin Harrison, Sr. is a Hall of Fame wide receiver, who was once the NFL's highest-paid player at the position. His career earnings from his NFL player contracts over his 13-year career (1996-2008) were just under $67 million."

It's not like we are talking the Ball family here. Harrison Sr is a business man and wants what's best for his son.

Maybe let him have his own career then...
Maybe this is what MHJ wants? Who are we to judge how people handle their own business. Why should these athletes pay some random agency a large fee that his dad is already familiar with?

Sports agents may be a thing of the past. Most players who have represented themselves or were by family members did just fine.

Time will tell. Every star player probably thinks they can guide their kid to have it easier in the league rather than just letting them stand on their own and be their own person/player.

I'd personally rather be tossed into the fire and experience everything just like the other players around me did.

A father and son have never both been inducted into the Hall of Fame as players. Maybe MHS has it all figured out and he's going to hold MHJ's hand his entire career and that'll be the difference. :sarcasm:

Why do you care at all about this?

2/3 of NFL rookies will wash out of the league within three years. Maybe being "tossed into the fire and experience everything just like the other players around me did" isn't a route to success.

Because I'm a diehard Cardinals fan and a season ticket holder who goes to all of the games. Just not good optics. Several red flags and he hasn't even signed his rookie contract yet or done anything in the league.

He's going to make so many millions with endorsements and contracts, etc. Sign the standard licensing deal and move on already. Sign your rookie deal and let's go !! Fans want his jersey, and HE is the reason they cannot get one.

I was really hoping we'd get a great trade down offer and still get Rome Odunze. He seems more like a Gannon/Ossenfort guy than MHJ does, IMHO. Talented and humble but hungry and eager to prove himself at the next level. Not some silver spoon prima donna WR who treats everything like a business and has a helicopter dad guiding him at every step. Hopefully he is better on the field than he has been off the field so far.
