Good article that lays out every scenario that could play out for ARZ this offseason. Second article I've read this week mentioning Kole Calhoun & Avisail Garcia as OF options. Starlin Castro would be intriguing at 2B if we keep Escobar at 3B. Only part of article I disagree with is the mention that we do not need SP. We need a front line guy like Bumgardner IMO as Ray is not the one to lead the rotation.
Completely agree. Starter #1 or at least #2 should be the priority, with a closer right behind, imo.

JUICED BALL DEBATE

It is reported that the juiced ball debate is being discussed at the GM meetings in Paradise Valley.

Evidently the Commissioner has acknowledged that the balls were changed back to normal during
the post-season, which statistics support.

Talk about results manipulation. Wow!

this is so not ok, and the fact that no one is talking about it is mind blowing. i don't like the juiced ball at all, but to change it for the post season and say nothing about it? this is corrupt as hell

Agreed, add to that the commissioner repeatedly denied the ball was changed during the regular season...insulting everyone who had a set of eyes.

For the first time in MLB history in 2018 there were more strikeouts than hits, a trend which was growing year to year. Batting averages for starters were historically low also. That's the smoking gun MLB tried to remedy in one season. And they got renewed interest.

In other words, every batter is swinging for the fences. We might as well cater to them.

"Hey, I strike out a lot and my batting average is down in 480 at-bats, but I hit 20 home runs."

Not condoning it at all. On the opposite, just pointing out the obvious on what impelled MLB to to pull the trigger bringing in the juiced BB this past season.

The #MLB minimum salary for 2020 will be $563,500, an $8,500 raise from the $555,000 minimum in 2019.
0.15% annual increase. It's a start!

Since it is ten times what a college grad hopes to get.

With potential of multi-millions for coming years.

Granted, the 'shelf life' of a professional ball player is
limited, which is why every sports team should have
a financial advisor on the payroll.

Nouveau riche calls for that, with so many athletes
coming from low income backgrounds.

And a social advisor to keep them from investing
in drugs, for health reasons as well.

Baseball's version of runaway inflation.

Decent, but not superstar, players raising the bar for
the rest.

And who pays for it? The fans. No checks-or-balances.

Financial extremes beyond the point of reason for
performers to see-ball-hit-ball.

While public school teachers remain underpaid.
