Another team to commit to paying baseball-ops employees through at least May 31: The Baltimore Orioles, sources tells ESPN. @JeffWilson_FWST is also reporting the Rangers will pay through the end of May, which would make 22 of 30 teams to make the commitment.
Sources: the Yankees notified their baseball operations employees earlier today that they will be paid through May. Covers all employees on a uniform employee contract.
Follow-up on the Rangers: A source says the team will have no layoffs or furloughs of employees through the end of May. The letter sent to employees said: “If business conditions require us to make salary adjustments more broadly, that step would be taken no earlier than May 15.”
The Cleveland Indians have committed to paying a majority of their full-time employees their full salaries through at least June 30, sources tell me and @kileymcd. Forty senior staff members agreed to pay cuts to help ensure the full salaries of the rest of the full-time staff.
Part-time workers and interns with the Indians have been furloughed, with the potential to make the same amount of money or perhaps more through unemployment benefits. Other organizations have considered taking similar measures as they try to figure out financial paths forward.
