I don't get this team. Young hits a homer and Roberts then swings at a 3-0 pitch and makes an out. WTF?
I thought the mentality of guys like Young and Roberts trying to uppercut every ball into the air might have disappeared early in the season when CY finally got the message, was hitting over .400 and hitting more homeruns by hitting line drives.
Now he's back (and Roberts, too) to trying to hit every ball as high into the air as they can. Young's batting average is half of what it was, all for the sake of an occasional homerun. At the expense of productive at-bats.
The great majority of Young's at-bats are either strikeouts or popups. Why is Gibson rewarding it? It may be because most of his experience was in the American League where swinging the bat means goin' for the fences.
Despite a spike in wins here and there, at best it produces .500 baseball in the long run. It happened to Melvin and now it's happening to Gibson. Let me rephrase that. Melvin did it and now Gibson is doing it. Not surprisingly, so are many of the guys on the field.
Yes, Chris Young, stupidity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
Lefty, that's what this team is all about! It is frustrating to watch!
