ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – The 18 Sports Blitz returned with another special night.
Highlighting this week’s edition of the Blitz, Watkins Glen girls basketball’s Rachel Vickio netted the 1,000 point of her career. The special moment was achieved on a three point shot in the 4th, as part of a 43-39 victory over Whitney Point. Visit mytwintiers.com/sports article for more on the historic night.
Elsewhere in Section IV, 6th-ranked Horseheads cruised past Corning 70-33. The dominant victory was marked by a career-high 31 points from Sammie Bonnell and a career-best 12 from Ellie Jankowski. Also in the Twin Tiers, Elmira and Elmira Notre Dame celebrated impressive senior night wins.
On the ice, the Elmira Aviators outlasted the New Hampshire Mountain Kings 3-2, in a shootout. Matt Maglio would score the game-winner, while Friday night’s contest was also highlighted by the 100th career NAHL game for Andrew Horn. The matchup is the first of two on the weekend. New LECOM Event Center owner Marc Stemerman is set to host open house night for Saturday’s game, with free admission.
