ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – The 18 Sports Blitz returned with another big night of action.
Champions were crowned and major victories were accomplished on Fridays night’s edition of the Blitz. Elmira College hockey delivered a home and home sweep of Manhattanville. The Soaring Eagles men’s team rocked the Valliants 9-2 on First Responder’s Night at the Murray Athletic Center. On the women’s side, EC shut down Manhattanville 3-0 on the road.
In high school basketball, Candor and Union Springs matched up for the girls and boys IAC Small School finals at Tompkins Cortland Community College. The Wolves dominated the girls’ championship, winning 69-47. Union Springs also took the boys’ title with a 71-60 victory over the Coyotes.
In other playoff basketball, the Troy girls advanced in the PIAA District IV tournament. In the Class 3A quarterfinals the Trojans backed their NTL title with a 47-33 win over Wyalusing. Troy will next head to the semifinal round and face Loyalsock.
