Orlovsky on ESPN made a good point, Tua is left handed, the RG and RT for the Dolphins are both rookies. They already have one of the worst pass blocking OL's in the NFL, it's only worked so far because Fitzpatrick gets rid of the ball fast, and because he can still run. now you have a rookie, with 2 rookies on his backside, coming off a major injury.

Will be interesting

Yep. I wouldn't want to put my QBoF in that situation unless necessary... especially if my QB was playing good.

Ryan Fitzpatrick: "I basically got fired yesterday and my day today consisted of zoom meetings with the guy who fired me and sitting in a room with the guy who replaced me for four hours."

That makes it much worse since it's obvious Fitzpatrick was NOT aware this was the plan. It's a business we all get it and maybe Tua will play so well it won't matter, but that sucks.

yesterday I was under the impression he was on board all along and knew what was coming, it's apparent he didn't

This is weird because Fitz had to know Tua would get the nod sooner than later. Fitz is a Harvard grad and he couldn't do this obvious math.

I also heard Fitz saying that it is his honor and pleasure to be helping Tua become an NFL QB. He said he likes to pay it forward because players like Carson Palmer was so good to him. I'm paraphrasing but that's the basic gist.

It sounds like whole playing well and leading the team, he thought he'd get the year or until major failure that he would get to be the guy while mentoring his earned replacent.

I know it happens all the time in the business world but it still sucks. I get where Fitz is coming from, fired for doing a good job. When I worked for Hershey, when the new CEO came in they cut out our pension, then our benefits, then they started laying people off. I was in my 17th year there and they were discarding the long time employees and replacing them with new hires out of college. My boss kept throwing hints that I should take a retirement package they offered. At age 51 I wasn't ready to retire and I knew that was foolish so I hung on because the package for being laid off was better. Finally I got to the point where they laid me off but I got 2 weeks pay for every year I worked there and full benefits and they paid it to you like you were still employed so I got paid for 34 weeks with benefits. Found a new job three weeks after being laid off and basically had two paychecks for 30 weeks.

1. I like Tua, and am looking forward to watching him play (except us).
2. That said, I feel bad for Fitz, as he's been playing very well. And I'm wondering if Miami is going to trade him.
3. BOL to both guys, except when they play us.

Those excerpts paint a bit of an inaccurate picture, as if Fitzpatrick is disgruntled and griping. The Athletic has an article with more complete quotes by Fitzpatrick that show that he's just being honest about how hard this is for him, but that it was not unexpected and that he's planning to continue being a good mentor to Tagovailoa:
“My heart just hurt all day,” Fitzpatrick said. “It was heartbreaking for me … that’s the decision and the direction that the organization is going in, and this eventually was going to happen no matter (what) — it was just a matter of when, not if. It still just broke my heart yesterday and it’s a tough thing for me to hear and to now have to deal with, but I’m going to do my best with it.”

[....]

“There’s a lot of stuff going through my mind, just from a personal standpoint, not necessarily with the team,” Fitzpatrick said. “(I thought) … ‘Is this it? Was that my last game as an NFL player in terms of being the starter and going out there and playing?’ And you just kind of go through all those different scenarios. I’ve been a starter. I’ve been benched all kinds of different ways, but this one — this one just really more so than any of them — I think this organization and what we’ve been through the last year and a half, this was kind of the first place, other than Buffalo, where I just felt fully committed and invested and felt like it was my team.

“I think that’s a lot of the reason why my heart was so heavy yesterday. That’s a direction that the organization is going and I’ve just got to accept it.”

[....]

“This profession is interesting in that I basically got fired yesterday and then my day of work today consisted of me in Zoom meetings listening to the guy that fired me,” Fitzpatrick said. “And then (I was) locked in a spaced-out room with my replacement for four hours today. There aren’t a whole lot of jobs that are like that, but I know how difficult it is to play the quarterback position and I know that that room is so important to the guy that’s playing in terms of everybody having your back and pulling in the same direction. So today is a day to digest a little bit, and we’ll get away for the bye a little bit.

“But once this thing starts up again, I’ve got to do my best for Tua to help him out because there’s two separate situations here. One is with Tua. I want him to do well and I think he’s a great kid, and I think he has a really bright future. The other (situation) is my feelings and just kind of what I’m going through, and that has to be separate from when I walk into this building and help him out. I’ve got to separate those feelings from trying to be a professional and help him out as best I can.”

Fitzpatrick concluded: “If you draft a guy fifth overall and put him in, this isn’t a temporary — this is a forever decision. This is a long-term decision. I think those two situations are very different. I’m always ready to go and I could probably come out of the stands and play in five years if I needed to without picking up a football. But (I’m) just, again, accepting the role that I’ve now been given and trying to do the best I can in that role.”

Odd since Fitz is top 10 in QBR.

That is weird considering their record and how well Fitz has been playing.

It's the Dolphins who haven't had a QB since Marino. They are cursed by their own decisions. They could have had Herbert. Different owners and front offices but they wallow in tradition.

So.... is one game of tape gonna help us against Tua or hurt us?
I hope we don’t see things we think are tendencies that turn out to be just part of the game plan

If the Texans continue to flounder, the Dolphins will need to know sooner than later if Tagovailoa is the answer at QB, and that's seemingly why they named him starter despite Fitzpatrick having positioned them in second place in the AFC East. In other words, if Tagovailoa doesn't impress as QB1 in 2020, the Dolphins reportedly might consider grabbing a second consecutive top pick -- this time by way of Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, or the like.

Tua looked ordinary at best. The Rams self-destructed, which is getting to be the top theme of 2020. The Fish scored 28 points with only 56 yards of offense. Unless the Cards fall apart that shouldn’t be part of their game.
