Another good football post from you. Thanks for improving the discourse here.

I probably would have done something to aid our 29th ranked defense. I’m not a scout or a personnel exec. Those people are paid to produce results.
But by this admission shouldn’t you also refrain from criticism of picks? You’re essentially claiming you don’t know enough to make a recommendation. That should hold true in both directions.

I didn’t criticize the pick. I made a statement in response to someone who asked me a direct question that was only tangentially related to drafted Love.

I really try not to run my mouth about stuff I don’t know about. I don’t know anything about college football. I’m not talking about any of these guys.

Than 2026 Conner? Probably, but not much.

I don’t think Gibbs or McCaffery add much marginal value over Tyler Allgier independent of surrounding cast, offensive system, etc. they offer some, but not a ton.

Shanahan took the 49ers to the Super Bowl with Raheem Moestert and Tevin Coleman as his leading rushers.
This is the post that triggered @Cheesebeef and then @Stout . Loves name isn’t even in it.

I couldn't pick. If you take Love, but follow up with Bisontis, yes love this. If you took Love but picked some rando OL in the 6th round, NO! It's hard to put the Love pick in perspective by itself.

He hadn’t even been selected yet
Yeah… this isn’t entirely true. Your post may have been made when he wasn’t selected yet, but my response to it came AFTER we drafted him and you trashed the pick in the live draft thread. Hence the past tense used in my question:

“Who would you have drafted?”

that question was asked/posted AFTER you had already trashed the pick in the other thread.

But sure, paint me or the discussion however you want. I’ll just stay “triggered” over here. lol.

That was immaterial to the conversation. This is the “what would think if live were drafted” or some such thread.
He’s really skirting the truth here also. My question/response to his post came after we drafted Love and he trashed the pick in the live draft thread. Hence my question here.

Eh the optics of this is all a dumb debate.

Bottom line: do you like the pick? If not, who would you have taken? If you can dislike a player picked at a certain slot by definition that means you believe someone else should have taken. Very simple question: who?
This is also what I don't get... not necessarily here, but on Reddit, there's a ton of people trashing the value of an RB, but almost none of them are able to identify who they would have taken or what we should have done. Some insist we should have traded back despite reports we had no offers.

I'm with you. If it is just a value proposition, I think Reese should have been the pick.

I believe that Love is the best player in the draft though.

I do not like the pick. I probably would’ve taken Arvell Reese on the chance that he works out as a pass rusher.

Part of me would’ve liked to see Sonny Styles.

But again I don’t watch college football and I did zero work on these prospects.

I totally feel where you're coming from... as long as, unlike me, one believes he's anything more than an off-ball linebacker.

I think we'll look back at a very good player eventually, but not someone that exceeds at Edge. (Just to be clear, not claiming you said that.)

You did it!

Seriously, I think that’s all anyone wanted to know . . . your opinion. You should feel good about the fact that it’s valued even if you don’t see the value to others due to your level of knowledge.

I watch little college ball either. So my thoughts on the players is similarly of limited value. But the concepts can still be discussed. Like you didn’t want Reese because you thought he was going to be a slam dunk pass rusher. You wanted him on the chance he could be over a running back whose position you see as limited value. I get that. My counter is that I prefer the “surer” thing over the gamble. If we have the third pick I want a stud. Sure I’d prefer it be a QB, passrusher or LT, but this draft just didn’t offer us a sure thing at any of those and o don’t want to gamble with third pick, so selecting the guy that the people in know DO think is the sure talent sways me.

That’s fair. I don’t think I was taking the ask from Stout and Cheese in good faith. If that’s how it was made, apologies.

I don’t think there are any sure things in the draft. Look up the last 5 RBs taken in the top 5 if you wanna get shook.

It was. And apologies on my part for what followed.
