An indicator Love wasn’t on the menu.

Too hard to say lots of stuff changed since then. I think the general thinking then was the first 2 picks might be QB's, now it's pretty widely assumed only Mendoza is gone. They probably assumed they were taking an edge or RT but the best edge is likely going to be gone at 2, none of the RT's are worth #3 and the one they wanted, Mauigoa, has a disc problem so should be a non starter.

So either take Love, trade or take a player you are hoping pans out.

Also the way things went last year it was pretty important to get a RB, there's no way they can rely on either Conner or Benson to be healthy we still don't know what's up with Benson's knee. If we take Love, it's almost a lock Trey gets released

I think the calculus has changed significantly since we signed Allgier

It would really skew the cap. Love is likely the BPA for those who believe in that pre-cap, now mostly discarded strategy. I don’t find it impossible to work with, but it would make building out the roster tricky. Coupled with the RB room’s investment the Cards would have trouble getting their money back.
Another way to think about this is that it will be nearly impossible for Love to outplay his contract if selected here.

They should have been beefing up the OL in free agency. That would make taking a RB much more appealing. Aren't we still sitting on $30-$40 mil in cap space?
yeah, with two gaping holes at G and RT. This team just makes such little effort to be competitive or put themselves in a position to draft from a position of any kind of strength. it's always drafting from extreme weakness... seemingly out of choice, sitting on massive amounts of cap space, year in, year out.

Here's my counter. Do you expect the edge or RT to be as good as the money? I get that 7th highest paid RB vs 30th paid WR, 32nd paid Edge, they didn't mention RT. Google says he'd be the 12th or 13th highest paid RT, does anybody believe any of the guys we can take at 3 will be that good their first year? BTW google says 10-15 Edges would be higher paid so he's unless we think Bailey etc is going to be that good as a rookie we're going to be overpaying them too.

That's the issue in a weak draft you're probably going to get a player you're overpaying for early in the contract

My assumption is whoever we pick we're going to suck this year and get another high pick next year when there is hopefully better talent. If we can get a starting RT as well great, if not you get him next year in a hopefully better draft and you already have your franchise RB

This ignores the probability that our QBOF is most likely going to be on a rookie contract next year which is the flexibility to do things cap-wise we likely wouldn’t otherwise.

Is everything
I'd be somewhere between "happy" and "OK with it". I chose "happy", the glass half(back) full choice of the two.

My view has changed based on:

- Jets will take Bailey meaning no premium pass rusher is avaliable.

- Cant do Reese given our failures with "hybrid" defenders.

- Mauigoa is a no given the back issues that have been reported.

If we cant trade down (which I strongly believe is MO preference) then taking Love makes sense if you are "sticking and picking".

We’ve got a big hole in our RB room regardless if Love is the pick or not. So some measure of investment will be needed there.
I gotta know, what’s the hole?

Love - all around back with power and speed and shiftiness.
Allgeier- power back
Connor - do everything back as third back
Benson - young guy with some size and long speed

Not seeing a hole.

I think we can count on one hand the number of first round picks the Cardinals have had since ‘88 that had outplayed their contracts. So I think that’s a bad benchmark.

Bailey first, if gone, Love. Some reason I have visions of Fitz playing on this crap team with mostly a crap QB and STILL giving us something to cheer about. Maybe Love can be that guy at RB???
at RB......
That was the other Larry...

the crowd chant was the same... LAR-REE, LAR-REE...
Mr Larry Centers...also a very nice guy.

it almost seems we need to search the wire for good players named Larry who have a sweet disposition and a bright smile...
because those are the guys that fit in as Arizona Super Stars

right??
Overall, that could be the best RB room in the NFL by a significant margin...
what determines that are the same questions that would make us draft Love...
Can Trey Benson finally stay healthy and give us a dozen touches per game for at least 15 games a season?? Has John Conner hit the 30 year and is he finally washed?

Those two questions are why we would draft Love...and the answer to whether or not we have a passable RB room or an elite room.

the best part is the flexibility in the room would exponentially help our offense. Every man on the list can run, pass block, receive, and has a decent history of ball security.

If JC and TB answer those questions in our favor that RB room would be an amazing asset for a rookie QB even with questions along the line.

dude, look at this plate of crap we’ve selected from the draft buffet over the past 10 years. I didn’t include Walter because it’s too soon and he shows promise. PJ is solid, jury is still out on MHJ. Who cares if Love gets added to this list? I’d rather roll the dice that this kid has CMC potential than hope that some of these Edge rushers from a known weak draft class can maybe turn out to have Marcus Golden type production.

Hump and Kyler absolutely did.

Don’t remember how it worked under the old CBA, but I’d guess LJ Shelton and DRC also outperformed their contracts. Maybe Peterson is he was covered under the new CBA.

100%

I started supporting the Cards in 2012, Jonathan Cooper was my first 1st rounder, looking at the rest, besides DJ Hump, Kyler (who ended up been a problem, but was solid at times) and PJJ, it's been absolutely crap. Not sure how it compares to the other bottom feeder NFL teams, Browns Jets etc.

My thoughts.
If Bailey is available, I'd stick.

If not then look for the trade.

If no trade then Love is the only answer.
