Watch out for a record breaking contract. PJJ made some comments a while back about wanting to be the first $40mil a year LT....he seemed pretty confident in his position.
its the Cardinals, so it will probably be dolled up with incentives and clauses and such..but the 5yrs/205mil neighborhood will probably be in sight.
Seriously. Why pay the 12 best starting LT like he’s the first — or even third?

The 2027 projected OL franchise tag number is $31.5 million (https://overthecap.com/franchise-transition-and-rfa-tenders). PJJ’s fifth-year option value is $19.7 million.

If he balls out this year, you have him on a discount in 2027, but you also have him under team control in 2028 at like $35 million. He’s unlikely to outplay that number based on three years of past performance.

Monti just can’t risk losing him because it makes him look like even more of a ridiculous failure.

the kids logic is sound...top pass rushers are getting 40 mil...so you need 40 mil guys to block them.

You completely misunderstand what injury settlements are. They don’t apply to big-contract players my man.
You're probably right. I thought I remembered one of the reasons why that sat Kyler was to avoid paying guarantees in case he was injured.

Because you have team control and there's no reason to hand him the bag yet. Did the Kyler early contract teach us nothing? Now, PJJ's problems wouldn't be the same, but say he gets a career-altering injury this season after we give him the bag. No bueno.
But he’s been durable and consistent. There’s no question he’s our LTOTF.

And we have a gazillion dollars of cap space too.

We’ll get a bit of a discount if we sign him early so let’s just get it out of the way.

We don’t need PJJ’s big contract extension to be a distraction next offseason when we’re trying add a superstar or two in FA.

Hahahahahahshshshahaha… OMG. That last line is the best joke I’ve read on this board in months.

Unless you were serious and actually Monti would ever even attempt to try and sign a superstar, no less TWO, even no lesser be able to convince to do so when we’re atrocious for the fourth year out of his five year reign of error.

It’s incredibly naive after the past half-dozen years to think there will be any superstars available in free agency ever.
We seemingly don't agree on a lot, but this I agree with 100%.

This is another reason to draft more Oline to have younger guys developing to move into positions that can price themselves out of the roster

Okay fine “stars” then kerouc9. Like Josh Sweat type players. We will need a few.

And I don’t want PJJ’s inevitable signing to be on Monti’s plate during the critical 2026 offseason.

Our ham-handed GM’s limited capabilities will be stretched to breaking as it is.

If Monti can’t extend a player already under contract and also negotiate with two or three top free agents, what are we even doing here?

PJJ is a good player. Yes he will get a long term deal. I would be surprised if it sets the market at the top for LT money, but maybe.

they can get it done to put real pressure on the 49ers to pay way up for Trent Williams

I agree that there is no way he is getting $40M right now.

Arizona hold all of the Cards right now with PJJ. They should be in no rush to resign him long term at this point. Plenty of time to do that moving forward.

Here is the thing...if PJJ plays like the best LT in football, I have no issue paying him whatever number that equates to.

I fully expect PJJ to get a massive bag but it just won't happen this year. I think next offseason is when you reward him with a long term contract.

Some of it depends on how you want to stack you contracts for long term cap planning and the age of the player. Michael Wilson probably jumps the line since he doesn't have a 5th year option and the franchise tag is less appropriate for him. Have to account how much cash Bidwill has had to shell out of pocket this year, and maybe Monti's pitch to stay was that he roster was actually good and so Bidwill is making him prove it with minimal FA spending.

Who knows. This franchise is strange.

I'd like to see some evidence that Wilson can put up numbers with another WR on the team before I pay him.

I guess I put that more on coaching than on Wilson. I saw Wilson produce a 1000 yard season along side another 1000 yard player in McBride. Also in a season where MHJ had 600 yards. At this point, I am probably paying my WR who has proven he can get 1000 yards and figure out MHJ when I have to. Just my opinion.

There is no rush on Wilson though, right? We can wait to make a decision until next year?

If MLF is worth his salt as an offensive mind, he should be able to figure out how to use Wilson, McBride and MHJ. The Wilson and MHJ skillsets aren't so different than Puka and Davante.
