Here's what The Athletic's Daniel Popper had to say about this signing:
RB Tyler Allgeier joins new staff with Cardinals
Top 150 ranking: 69

Reported deal: 2 years, $12.25 million
Grade: B+

Michael Carter is a free agent, and the Cardinals opted not to tender Emari Demercado. They needed another running back alongside veteran James Conner and 2024 third-round pick Trey Benson. Allgeier is a big, imposing back who runs with physicality, leg drive and motor. After a standout rookie season, Allgeier played second-fiddle to Bijan Robinson. But he has upside in a more prominent role. He spent the past two seasons playing for Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson, who came up with the Rams under Sean McVay. The Cardinals hired new coach Mike LaFleur from the Rams. So there will be some scheme familiarity for Allgeier. — Popper

I don't know that we should draft Love #3.

But, the presence of Benson, no production, injury prone RB who can't block, Conner, a solid, but 31 year old injury prone RB coming off a grotesque injury, and this guy, who is a complimentary dude, should not give much weight to future considerations at the position.

We could draft a 5th round guy and it could bump Benson off the roster.

Love or not, they desperately needed another running back, maybe 2.

Really happy with the Allgeier signing. When the Cards lost Connor and Benson to injuries last year they did not have an NFL running back capable of starting. For all intents and purposes we ran an offense without a running threat for the remainder of the season. Allgeier may not be a top end RB, but he is a legit starter who can carry the load if needed. RB addition was a must have for this offseason.

Watching Brissett with play action and no running threat was painful. It should be obvious that a running game will help the offense.

Two starters on day one is a nice start. Still need an ILB, a DT, and a backup veteran swing tackle.

I don't think I understand this. This guy is OK, but he's a number 2 / complimentary back. To me that is also what James Conner is.

We need a starter - but it seems like the plan is to go with a committee. I don't like that.
Allgeier has really never been given the opportunity honestly as a Falcon fan. The guy is Starter material. He will be the number 1 back and Connor will be 3rd down back.

This is hopium. Nothing has shown he is “starter material”. Maybe he shines, but more likely is he is a complimentary back like he has been in his career so far which is fine.

Tyler Allgeier has forced missed tackles on 30.1% of his carries since entering the league in 2022, the 4th-highest rate in the NFL (min. 400 carries).

Allgeier is one of just 11 players with 200 missed tackles forced on rushes in that span.

You guys will love this guy. This is a tough SOB. He was hurt by the Falcons management and coaches. Once they drafted Bijan in the first pick, his time was numbered. Just watch. No hopium here. I've watched this guy since he was drafted out of BYU and I'm glad he's finally getting a chance.

Well, I think he is an OK back. I am somewhat familiar. As a rule I just don't like slow big power backs. They are not my cup of tea, and rarely are they a top back in the league.

Looks to me like Conner insurance. With Conner questionable Allgeier is the power back the Cards may lack. Despite all the criticism Benson has the most breakaway potential. I know as yet unrealized. I like the move from a balance POV. Allgeier also is excellent in pass protection with that position now available.

I'd be pretty surprised if he's not the starter. We all love Conner you can't not root for the guy but at his age coming off that injury expecting him to start would be crazy.

You know I'm a big Benson fan but he's been hurt 2 years in a row I think it's pretty likely they either know something we don't or just don't think that knee is "right" and are moving on.

the first run of the highlight reel posted here on TA he goes like 20 yards on a play that's a TD with any speed at all. It's my issue with him he's slow. But then outside of Achane there really isn't any RB that would have gotten me excited in a trade or FA signing. Love is the guy in the draft but aren't taking him now.

I'm actually kind of hoping we look at Jajaun Jennings now at WR, I don't know how much he'd cost but we appear to be going for bigger Wr, presumably for blocking and that's Jennings.

Jennings would have been great but we settled for Bourne.

Certainly Allgeier could start, but I think we’re looking at a rotation.

Yeah, I know the player. He is a complimentary running back who knows the system. Saying he is something more is hopium.

I think in drafts like this, you just want to draft a good starter and stop worrying about Mel Kiper value crap.
Yeah 5 years from now, Love might be the only Star from this draft (as a casual fan who’s been following the draft about 23 years, I’ve never seen a worse draft class). If that’s the case, would anyone be upset we picked him 3rd overall? The answer is absolutely not.
