And

it is because “My concern—and the reason for the D+ grade—is that the Cardinals are not in a position to plug and play a rising coordinator and find success”.
IMO, this may be a valid concern, but then the dude says VJ and Morris would have been great options...so I don't get the D+. Like if Vance was hired he's suddenly giving it an A? lol

We are now past the 24-hour mark since the Cardinals chose to hire Mike LaFleur as their next head coach. While Arizona may have been the final head coaching vacancy to be filled, it does not mean that the team is bad.

Interesting interview from the Az Republic. Made me more comfortable with ML and his involvement with the Rams offense. Sounds like he was much more involved than previous OCs.

Here is one of the questions and replies:

Q: This is a somewhat unusual situation for a head coach hire where LaFleur comes from an elite offense but didn't call the plays, so there's not as much that people on the outside can look at. What was, in your mind, his role in the Rams' offensive success?

I do think that he, as the years went on, had a little bit more of a role than past guys. I actually asked Sean about that today. Just because Sean has talked a lot the last couple of years about how he has delegated more, specifically to the offensive staff, with Mike obviously being at the top of that chain. Just as Sean has tried to be a little bit more of an all-around head coach. And so I think it's pretty important to know that Mike has always been involved in figuring out the game plan and game script. He's very collaborative with Sean in that process.

“He's been one of the key install guys. I don't think this was ever admitted, but it clearly looked like he was doing a little bit more of the red zone install last year when the Rams were struggling in that department. He took over more as the Rams were trying to fix that area of their game. So he was really trusted. Sean trusted him a lot.

And even though he didn't call plays, it is a collaborative process in terms of how Sean calls plays. He listens for suggestions from the guys in the booth, even if he ultimately makes the decision. Those guys can call out a number in terms of something they think will work in that moment. He's been involved in those playcalling moments in between snaps, even if it wasn't as a traditional playcaller. But he had experience in that, too, from his time with the Jets. And he's learned from a lot of really, really good coaches. So it'll be interesting to see what it looks like as a head coach, but he's not just a guy sitting in the booth.”

It's a truly irrelevant and pointless use of an otherwise funny acronym: MLF = Mom I'd Like to F. Why anyone wants to call our male coach that and think it's funny is beyond me.
I knew that. I was just wondering how long a I could poke 602 and I think Minski to stop addressing it with me.
It’s a weak attempt at imposing a dumb idea.

RAID the Rams! Neil Shaalhausse( sp) worked closely with ML would be my first choice.
On defense there seems to be quite a few qualified guys. Ultimately I want the guy that ML wants rven if it’s Rallis…as long as he REALLY wants him.
He’ll stay and likely get promoted.

McBride is probably the one who is most in danger of being relegated a bit.

LeFleur and the Rams did a good job keeping both Adams and Nakua involved...they combined for 280 targets. 3rd was the TE with 56.

Even in GB, Kraft only averaged 5.5 targets per game in his 8 games played.

Hockenson got 4.4 targets per game in MN under KOC.

Brenton Strange got 5 targets per game under Coen on Jacksonville this year.

McVay and tree do not have a history if using the TE as a focal point. This should be one of the biggest areas to watch this year because the Cardinals should 100% trade McBride if that is going to be his usage. It needs to be at 7 per game.
Higbee got quite a few targets earlier in his career.

Seems like a HC should adapt his system to the players he has rather than the opposite of that? No?
In theory, but sometimes that is easier said than done. My guess, having been around Kittle in SF, Mike will have an idea of the type of usage you should give a top TE vs an average one. How to best exploit the attention a top TE gets in the middle of the field or one on one.

My initial guess is we will see a lot of 12 personnel again and hopefully Mike has a better plan in generating big plays out of it.

Higbee is not McBride.

Career high for Higbee BTW
Sure but there just aren't a lot of top two way TEs in the league. Just like some QBs don't really understand how to use a TE, it can be the same with OCs, HCs, and play callers. Also, you have to balance a top TE with two other pass catchers which can be tough at times.

MLF has been the official way to type out his name for 5 years now. Its the easiest way to differentiate him from his big brother.

You cant just call him LaFleur, and using another acronym or nickname? Well, no one would know who you're talking about. ML also belongs to his brother.

Call him 'The Flower', that's what Lafleur means in French, and hope that he's as great as a HOF hockey player, Guy 'The Flower' Lafleur. ;)
