Imagine:
Matt LaFluer: Hi little brother, congrats!
Mike LaFluer: Thank Bro. Hey I want to pick your brain about Malik Willis…..

I do think that with ML being the new HC, Willis name becomes more interesting. I'm not throwing a ton of cash at Willis but I would bring him in to compete with Jacoby in 2026. I'm still looking at 2027 as the year I go after my QBOTF in the draft.

As a late round or high priority rookie free agent, anyone have an opinion on Jack Strand out of MSU Moorehead
First this is not the Kentucky school, this one is in Minnesota. If you like “big” this is you guy. Standing 6’5” he can see over most of the line. He’s a Division II QB with a decent arm who lives to throw the ball. D2 QBs have not created a path to success in the NFL. Of course I’ve never seen him play except in the All American Bowl this year. He didn’t stand out. Has a quick release but appears to be an arm thrower, which is common in big guys. He’s like a UDFA and will likely never be more than an extra in an NFL camp. It’s not impossible he’s better than he looked, but he was not exciting. He seems to have decent accuracy and touch on mid and short range passes, but the speed and size of the NFL is a gargantuan step up.

If you want players with ties to LeFluer who are expected to be available.

Joe Flacco
Josh Johnson
Kirk Cousins
Zach Wilson
Jimmy Garappolo
Malik Willis

Willis is the only one on that list that may have some sort of future (that is still a question mark) but worth at least looking at. Everyone else listed are either ancient or a nothing burger and a total pass for me.

Forget Zac Wilson. That combo was a disaster when the Jets tried it.
But Wilson is 3/4 years older and has spent the past two years in Denver under Payton and then in Miami under McDaniels. There is a non-zero chance he is a different player mentally now than he was. Danold said that sitting behind Purdy in SF helped him understand the amount of work required to play QB. Not saying that is the case with Wilson but not saying it isn't either.

Personally, I think you will see the Cardinals look at Simpson or Nussmeier or Altmyer in the draft so the future argument is out the window. I do believe the "plan" is to add a QB who can execute the offense right away and at a high level.

Ooh, how fun would it be to ride with Flacco? That's it, I'm in on Flacco and then either trading up for Mendoza or taking Allar in the 3rd. Let's have some fun this year!

A 3rd or beyond for Nuss or 4th or beyone for Altmeyer would be fine, especially a healthy Nussmeier. Lots of game experience with both of those guys.

Unless they get Willis the other guys lack mobility. I think they will make multiple Oline changes but it will take time for them to jell. One of these guys would get killed before they do.

Willis got hurt last year behind a good Packers OL. I don't think you should prioritize mobility as much as being able to read the defense deliver the ball on time.

I mentioned somewhere that I hoped the Cards get another second as I think that’s there best shot at Nussmeier. It’s now the consensus he was injured more severely this season than LSU let on. I knew my info was good. A few guys think he goes before Simpson. His Senior Bowl answered a bunch of questions about him. If you go back and look at him in 2024 you’ll see a different QB than you saw in 2025. He’s not a sure thing, but he’s worth the pick.

Brissett as the veteran placeholder. Wilson can be the upside guy that may have developed some like Darnold and can help implement the new system. Finally, draft someone in the middle rounds like Allar(my preference) or whoever else.

Also, for everyone who likes Malik Willis but dislikes Trinidad Chambliss...Spoiler alert, they are the same height.

He’s not tho. Russ still likes to yeet it down the field. 8.5 air yards per attempt last season. He just can’t run to get the short yardage when the deep ball isn’t there, and he doesn’t like taking the underneath stuff.

Kyler was 5.9 intended air yards per attempt last year.
