Well that's it then.

With the sixth pick in the 2026 draft, the Arizona Cardinals select Ty Simpson, QB, Alabama.

Simpson can ride the pine until we can't stomach any more BBQ.

Then bring the golden boy off the bench to be our savior. Hope it works out.

What exactly is the alternative my friend? :)

Trade up for Mendoza maybe?

We are screwed at QB1 right now.
trade up for mendoza or draft the right side of the o-line

we're in the nfc west where the whiners have only lost 4 games and could miss the playoffs - if we don't get the best qb in the draft what's the freakin point

Have there been many solid NFL QB's with only one year of college (starter) under their belt?

We'd have to sell the farm for Mendoza, no thanks. Maybe grab one later in draft/FA.

A lot more options in '27. We need to have a better foundation. That's what this draft is for.

The team is tough to evaluate because of the environment. I know the GM is bad. I know the HC is bad. My guess is some of the players are bad but some others might be better in a better environment.

A competent GM and HC should be able to buy an oline and running game in the offseason to support a timing and rhythm QB. The defense is a mess because Monti sucks at his job, and the one DL player who could rush the passer is likely to be out for most of next season with a knee injury. You have to spend money for this unit as well, and can't pull a Monti and ignore it.

I don't think the gap between Mendoza and Simpson is worth the cost of trading up. Maybe in the last two weeks we get to see Gaines between PJJ and Fro. That would be telling for the future. You can fix the o-line and running back room in FA. That should not have an impact on adding OL in the draft.

Monti's mistake with the OL and DL is that he tried to do the minimum. If you really want to fix a unit, add enough good players that you end up having to make some hard cut decisions. Do that year 1, and you can make strategic moves moving forward to keep the talent level you have established.

i think mendoza and simpson are pretty far apart - if we get the 5th pick i would trade up for mendoza but trade back if simpson was the option - we don't need a good qb we need a great qb - i don't see simpson being great but you never know - a good qb in this division only keeps us in purgatory

If we did draft Simpson then send him to Carson's brother for at least 2 months and periodic visits to coach him

Or pay him enough to be exclusive with our QBOF

At the numbers the quality QB's are getting it's worth in IMO

Yes it might be out of the box but owners that want to win bad enough make a commitment

I have seen nothing from Mendoza to make me think he will be "great". I think if you really did a deep dive into him, you would agree.

What you are hinting at is a lot of how a QB does at the pro level is dependent on how m=badly they want to get better. Even if the team doesn't have the resources, they can find them on their own.

Yeah definitely hard to read. Should be able to make the transition, but wouldn’t say a sure All Pro. This has been a weird year.

I think Mendoza is a good prospect, and like Simpson, I think he has the tools to be a starting NFL QB. Neither of them have amazing arm strength or mobility, but in fairness, neither did Burrow or Purdy or Goff or Love or a lot of starting NFL QBs.

I look at Arch and think both of these guys are as talented as Arch and have done more in college. They are both bigger than Julien Sayin (at least listed). I think they are both better QBs right now than any of the QBs in the projected 2027 draft class. Yes, those guys could get better, but they also could stagnate a little like college QBs can.

My question for the Mendoza or bust crowd is what do they think makes him so special? I just don't see special in any area of his game.

Has Dante Moore declared for the draft? That kid throws darts and has great intangibles. He is my #1 QB target.
No. The early thought was that he was going back. His OC/QB Coach going to another college might impact that decision though. I am sure he is focused on the playoff right now.

It is wildly accepted that Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson are the best four quarterbacks in the NFL. How many of them do you think were the first selected QB in their draft class.

Drake Maye is the hottest young superstar this season. He was the third quarterback in his class.

Dak Prescott has been great for several years. Seven QB's were drafted ahead of him in 2016 (including Brissett, by the way).

Of the 15 quarterbacks with the highest passer rating right now, two of them were the first selected QB in their class.

Of the 15 with the most passing yards, four was the first drafted in their class.

Of the 15 with the most touchdown passes, five was the first drafted in their class.

So, on draft night, how will you judge if they get the best quarterback in the draft?

Disagree on Manning. He seems much better skill-wise to me.

Depends on whether Monti and JG are brought back. Could definitely see a big trade offer if they think Mendoza can help save their jobs.

from what I see obviously - it's cool if you see something different - and they'll be playing each other jan 1 in the rose bowl right?
Well, Simpson will be playing Indiana’s defense & Mendoza will be playing Alabama’s defense.
