I don't know what to tell you. Eyeballs and numbers show Wilson is more suited as a #1.

Nobody is proclaiming either to be #1 studs.
You do realize that certain players put up big numbers when everyone else is out and they're the only target, right? You don't understand that's what's happening here?

meanwhile fantasy football is arguing over starting chase or wilson next week- come on man
Why do you think that is BGT? (Hint - see above) Do you honestly believe it's because they're both #1 WRs?

had 302 total yards in back to back games - numbers dropped when marvin returned - marvelous goes back out and wilson goes for 142

is that 450 yards in 3 games as the #1? or am i missing a game

he had one other start at X I think he had 6 catches in that game I don't remember for sure.

He's over 500 yards in his first starts at X.

Sure but the point is he's WAY more efficient as the X receiver than Marv is.

For the year 61 catches in 94 targets Marv has 40 catches in 69 targets. So 58% for Marv 65% for MW. But Wilson has been even higher percentage as the X guy. In the 3 games he for sure was the X I count 49 targets 36 catches which is 73%. It's not apples to apples Mike is with Marv out, Marvs numbers are with Mike playing, and some of marvs were with Kyler. But it's been pretty apparent with JB at QB the best X receiver has been Mike not Marv.

If you change the offense I'm 100% fine with keeping them both, I heard there are actually NFL teams that throw the ball to BOTH WR's, it's apparently allowed. But in THIS offense, seems pretty apparent Mike is better than marv at the X position.

I don't fault Marv for sitting out after the appendectomy or the heel thing I never hate on players for not playing when hurt, but when playing he's just not been as efficient as Mike has. Marv has a higher YPC and more TD's, but he's also got more games as the X or primary WR.

Wilson's target share has gone up to 34% in games where he's been the #1 wide receiver from 13% target share previously. McBride's target share has gone down to 20% in those games from 29% target share previously.

Wilson is getting these numbers in part because there are no other targets on the offense. This offense is getting counting stats but not winning games or being efficient.

His production wouldn’t go back in the tank with MHJ back and a more sensible offense but it wouldn’t be what we see now. Same if we had anything resembling a running game.

Kyler was a drag on all the WR production but it’s not easy designing a functional offense with a TE at the center without something special around it.

Agreed but it also shows he's actually getting open, he's catching 73% of his targets as the X in those 3 games. I agree when there's nobody else to throw to someone has to get catches but to get those catches you also have to get open.

If Petzing is fired, and if he's not I don't know what to say he's awful, but if he's fired and we put in a better offense then we're much better off at WR because of this. Wilson played some X as a rookie when Hollywood got hurt but he's showing now he's a much better player than he was then.

I don't think #1 is the right term, X receiver is. In our offense MHJ is the X receiver, but Mike has been better as the X than Marv.

how that translates into another offense is anybodys guess.

My guess is that's part because Trey is getting doubled more and part because WIlson just gets open more than Marv does

Just to be clear I'm not saying we discovered JaMarr Chase on our existing roster, I'm just saying while it's true he's benefitting from the lack of other targets, he's also showing he can get open when everyone on defense knows there's only 2 guys to bother covering, that's valuable.

we've seen Marv do it for a series or two, even his last game was like that, but he's never been able to do it a whole game, MW has done it the last 3 times he was the X receiver.

I mean, couldn’t this swing the other way where the defense knows that he’s the only target & they should do everything to stop it?
Possible, but there are tons of examples of guys putting up numbers on bad teams due to injury in limited settings.

I'm just saying that people expecting Wilson to suddenly become a legit #1 WR are setting themselves up for disappointment. He has no elite skills.

Just to be clear I'm not saying he's a legit WR1, I'm saying I think he's our best X receiver. Being our #1 is not the same as being a legit 1.

He catches the ball

And will go up to get it

That is a skill
I think them most you can ever expect out of a guy like Wilson is a decent #2. That's a hell of a value for where they got him, but the expectations of some around here after a few decent games is wild.
