I just hit 90%.

I don't have much I want to delete yet, might be time to buy a 5 TB external HD to attach to it.

Don't have a One, but have the PS4 (same HD size) and mine was basically hit last year. Got a 2tb notebook hd for it.

But yeah, it should be a bigger issue on the One because of the seemingly larger update sizes compared to the PS4 for the same games.

Both these consoles should of had a 1tb minimum, and even that is really, really small.

To be really future proof for the life of the console, if you are a medium or heavy gamer, and don't want to have to delete and redownload anything, you're going to need like 4-6 TB's. Likely 6. 100gb games are coming.

Going to be a while before a 4-6 TB notebook drive (for PS4) is under 100 bucks.

I havent found any 5tb under $100 yet, been looking a little bit today.

I would think 5tb wont cover it in the long run really considering i dont have many games yet and already have 500GB used. However, a 5tb will buy me time and I assume you can hook two up and then I would be set....until those hard drives fail.

Mortal Kombat alone is like 35GB. At least you can use external HD instead of name brand HD this time around.

That's a plus with the One, you can use external...technically you can with the PS4, if you like having an open case and having a wire coming out lol, but yeah external 4-6 TB's will be a lot cheaper then the notebook internal ones.

Also people need to consider whether or not they are going to have a ton of media like movie downloads. Also if memory serves correct, the One can output in 4k for video, so it's possible at some point UHD movies *might* find their way to the Xbox store, and then with that also you are looking at about 100gb's or so per movie. Just depends on the compression.

But yeah it all depends, for instance my Steam/Uplay/Origin folders spread across multiple drives has to be in the 5-6 TB range right now and I don't even have everything downloaded.

What do you connect the external with? USB 3?

USB...I think the Xbox One has USB3.

But it doesn't really matter as USB2 or 3 HD's all work with both. Meaning you can use a USB3 HD with a USB2 input or vice versa. Obviously you wouldn't get USB3 speeds through a USB2 input, but it will work.

My Xbox One HDD filled up about 4 or 5 months ago. I just filled my PS4 HDD last month or so. I haven't bothered with external HDD. I just delete and will re-download as needed for now.

So you have to buy a HD from playstation and put it inside or something? Thats a bummer, didnt know that. 360 had the xbox hard drives only for a while as a racket to get you to buy new consoles with bigger HDDs but ended up supporting external USB drives at some point.

My understanding is that it has to be usb 3.0 with xbone but I could be wrong.

be careful how you do that though IE: Mortal kombat took OVER 24 HOURS to download. it was insane and my xbox clocks well over 20mbps. So if you decided when a friend came over you wanted to play MKX and hit install, you wouldnt be able to play it until your friend had been gone for 20 hours ;)

My understanding is that it has to be usb 3.0 with xbone but I could be wrong.

No, it's not a Sony hard drive, just due to the limited space inside, it HAS to be a notebook variety. Notebook HD's are traditionally smaller capacity and cost more.

I think I might have found someone who was able to put a traditional 3.5" (notebook are 2.5") hard drive in there, but can't remember the details. The only way I know for sure you can use a regular one is have the case open (or mod it) and run the wire out of the case.

That would be weird for the One not to accept USB 2.0. There is NO technical reason for that. It would be something Microsoft actively had to not allow for that to be the case.

I don't know if this helps but I did just find this...apparently there is something that will convert a 2.0 HD past the Microsoft limitation.

http://www.xpgamesaves.com/page/ind...al-storage-before-june-update-usb-20-su-r1343

But that said, it's possible it's not necessary as this is pretty old and perhaps Microsoft updated it to allow 2.0. That's just really weird.

Though all and all, USB 3 HD's have been out for quite some time, and many people's 2.0 drives wouldn't be much better then 500gb/s-1TB. Though 2 TB 2.0 drives were sold for quite a time too. But if you are buying now, there shouldn't be any reason to get a 2.0 drive.

Though by searching for that I did find out you can hook up TWO external hd's to the Xbox One.

I haven't noticed a big price difference when searching for usb 3.0 so no big deal. thx for confirmation on two drives. thats likely what I will do, get a 5 TB for now and maybe get one later. I also need to buy at least on 2TB HD for my 360 (biggest you can use apparently) as both of my "XBOX" HD's are full and they keep giving me free games.

Mines at like 80%. I might have to buy an external when Witcher 3 comes out. I can't freaking wait for that game.

Let me know if you find a smoking deal. I will be searching occasionally too once I pay some bills on Friday and figure out where I am financially ;)

even when you put a disc in, it downloads the entire game to your harddrive now.

and you cant play the game until its done. Some games allow you to play a very small portion while it is downloading. VERY annoying.

The only workaround for that if you want to play the game right away is to preorder the digital version and it will download before it actually releases.

I have a few discs but not that I have learned how to share with another console, me and my buddy will be doing digital only so we can both play games while only buying one copy.

I found a 4TB for 130 at newegg. I honestly haven't looked much yet either.

Really, you have to upload the game before you play it? That's lame. I would go all digital to if that's the case.

The only issue is sometimes you can find better deals on disc but digital has lots of deals anymore too so w/e

Great deal. I am running out of space on both the XBONE and the PS4. Now I wonder how easily this will work with my Router. It has USB 3.0 and storage/backup functions built in. I might have to look at that for only $130. Anybody know if you can daisy chain these? Sometimes these things get wonky when trying to use more than one. I had that problem with a WD setup I did one time.

I doubt you can daisy chain these on your xbox one. I'm sure you can setup some sort of RAID for PC use though.

That would be cool if you could just save them on a NAS and pull them off that, but I doubt they allow that.

I got an email a few days ago that WD came out with a 6 TB drive, but its in the $250 range though.

Do the PS4 and XBONE have a 3.0 USB?

My XBOne filled up a while ago so I deleted some games that I probably won't play again. I'm at about 50% capacity now... it seems like every retail game takes up about 30-50GB lately.

I've really just been playing Neverwinter lately when I get a chance to play... not that much time left since my daughter was born 2/22/15 (1st child). Neverwinter is fairly fun though... Basically a free-to-play World of Warcraft where you can play all of the missions single player & really only need to join up with others for Dungeons (long missions... typically 45min-1hour) & Skirmishes (quick 15-20 minutes). Dungeons & Skirmishes don't affect your ability to beat the game. I haven't spent a penny on the game yet & I'm level 43 already.
