Huge loss for the Cardinals. It will be hard for the Cardinals to compete with all of these key injuries.

Kevin Kolb's sternum and shoulder injuries will keep him out 6 weeks or more. Took a significant beating with poor OL and no run game.

The system kills.

The corpses posing as Olineman kill ;)

Can you honestly say the team has done anything since 2009 to make this dreadful Oline any better? Wiz & Co should look in the mirror & ask themselves the same question.

They invested a ton of $$$ in Kolb and really did nothing of note to protect their investment, imo. Laughingstock of the league.

If Kolb has detached ribs, he'll miss 6-8 wks, says ortho dr. similar injury to steering wheel to chest in car wreck.

Wow, he could possibly miss the entire season as there are only 10 games left plus the bye week.

Yep

I guarantee you it will change the day this seasons over!!!

Sometimes you have to have DWI to realize you've got a drinking problem. Imo we better draft a LT & move Levi to RT or guard, because I still think he blows protecting the QBs blindside. I really believe Wiz will make the Oline the major focus in the offseason.

You are talking about an organization that was last in the league in sacks for, who knows how many years, and then traded down instead of drafting Terrell Suggs.

Well, hopefully, we're talking about the organization that replaced the organization that did stuff like this every year. You know, the organization that has the revenue streams to compete on a fairly even field with the rest of the league.

Dude couldn't stay healthy in Philly either with Jason Peters protecting his blind side. O-line sucks but Kolb is an issue here too.

The sad thing is that they've tried. How many washed up guards have we overpaid in the last three years? Adam Snyder got $5 million guaranteed last offseason, even though many people in the media and on the board were baffled by the move. He carries a $4 million cap hit next season. Daryn Colledge will count for $7.25 million, which makes him the 9th highest paid guard in the league. There's actually a lot of money tied up in this line. They're just terrible.

I think the real problem is that the FO simply can't identify O-line talent. Well, Grimm is likely the real problem, but the talent evaluation certainly isn't helping. Our QBs got murdered most of last year, too. The answer was to sign Adam Snyder and draft Michael Floyd. Brandon Keith was seen as the long term answer at RT. He's yet to sign with another team in FA. Until changes are made in the FO, I fear we'll continue to see similar mistakes across the O-line.

The difficult thing is now not only do we need to upgrade our offensive line, but we also need to draft a QB. There is just no way we pay Kolb 14 mil next year after this injury. Hopefully some breaks come in the Cardinals favor in terms of the developement of Massie, Potter and Kelemente who all have ahtletic talent, but whether they can hold up physically in the NFL is still uncertain.

Its going to be the same team with or without Kolb. A defense so good that we will be in virtually every game, and an offense so bad that it will be almost impossible to put any team away, no matter how good or bad the opposition is.

Expect the roller coaster to continue.

Exactly. Everyone's suddenly acting like Kolb was Tom Brady and Skelton is absolute garbage. We're forgetting Kolb's Jake Plummer act against Miami suddenly. Kolb has been okay, but far from stellar, missing big plays often. Skelton came in and did well, then was the dog on the last offensive play of OT. They're both up-and-down, average QBs right now.

2-10 though with an interception. That 5% interception rate is tough to overlook.

Kolb was either being sacked or having to throw the ball away something like 6 times every 20 pass attempts. Kolb, Skelton, Lindley, Doucet... doesn't matter we're toast.

Kevin Kolb deserves a Purple Heart.

I was so wrong about him that I am disgusted with myself. I never thought he wanted to put his health on the line the way he did, especially since he still gets the millions regardless.

What he did was pick himself off of the NFL scrapheap when practically the whole NFL scene was booing him or calling him a wuss. He played for pride...he played for the love of the game...he played for the love of competition...and he played his guts out for the team, for his teammates...and he made every player, coach, owner and fan proud.

That said---the organization should be thoroughly embarrassed by the way in which it has put all of its QBs in harm's way---by first having a practice squad player try to protect both Skelton's and Kolb's backside in the penultimate pre-season game (and not do anything about it for nearly 5 series), then for not making any move via trade to ameliorate the situation and worst of all for not making any coaching adjustments in order to give marginal-at=best NFL tackles help in protecting the QB---

23 freaking sacks in the last 3 games---is a total disgrace by anyone's standards.

So, thank you Kevin Kolb. Thank you for being Cardinal tough in the toughest situation possible for a QB. You've won a fan in me and millions of others.
Not only that but he was a complete professional the entire time. No "Jay Cutler" style reactions on the sideline, no ripping the schemes or coaching in the press.....

He took this beating like a man. And I respect him for it.

This.

Kolb was auditioning for his $9 million salary in 2013, and this injury pretty much assures that he's not going to get it. If Skelton can keep a steady hand on the tiller and keep us at .500 the next 6-8 weeks, Kolb can return and make a case to stay on the roster at a reduced salary. Of course, if Skelton can play .500 ball the next eight weeks, there's really no reason to keep Kolb on the roster at all.

I'm not sure I trust this coaching staff to make do with even a second-round offensive lineman. There will be some good players out there in free agency (maybe). It's too early to talk about the draft, but it's not too early to talk about draft needs.

The sad thing is that Schofield is in a contact year, and we can't build on the OLB position (and give someone a year as a backup to train behind him), because we'll be staunching needs in 2013 (again).

The good news is that with Levi coming back (I wonder if he's still hanging around the facility, or if he went back to PA for his rehab), and Massie having another candle on the birthday cake, we'll be upgraded at 2 OL positions for the 2013 season before the draft and free agency.

Adam Snyder has a $2.9 million salary in 2013. Maybe he'll take a paycut for being awful.

Just goes to show that using higher draft picks on offensive linemen won't necessarily fix our oline problems.

Colledge was a 2nd round pick by Green Bay and Snyder was a 3rd round selection by the 49ers. And of course Lutui was a 2nd round pick who ate his way out of town and Levi Brown a first round pick who was rated one of the worst OTs in the NFL.

Considering he's among the best at being bad he might demand a raise. We might even meed his demands given that we threw money at him despite the fact he was unemployed for topping the bad list a season ago. Nonsense aside, if we aren't smart enough to not hire the guy in the first place....

Not everyone. I think Skelton can be ok for us with this D. He has won games for us before.

Now Kolb has impressed me in the win streak, but his play has dropped off after the oline quit blocking. - who's wouldn't?

Maybe Skelton can give us a spark since he hasn't been getting beat up.

Kipers's Big Board (for whatever its worth) has OG Chance Warmack, Alabama at #8 and LT Luke Joeckel, Texas A&M at #9. I know its early but if
we don't go QB getting a quality OL will certainly be a priority. I think we need to draft and develop this position instead of overpaying for a free agent like Snyder.

Just for the record, here are the early options in FA and the draft...

FA
Brandon Albert - LT - Chiefs
-He very well could be franchised, but the Chiefs also have Dwayne Bowe as a FA who they franchised last year. Albert would command somewhere between 9-11 million per year, but would allow Levi to compete with Massie at RT.

Andre Smith - RT - Bengals
-High draft picks who under perform for a franchise tend to move on. Cardinal fans know this better than most. Smith is a RT only, but has been pretty good over there. He will probably command between 6-8 million per year, but would also effectively waste our 4th round pick in Massie.

Andy Levitre - LG - Bills
-I am a big fan of this guy, but I could see Buffalo franchising him. He is pretty athletic, very tough at point of attack, and is still young. I could see him commanding 6-7 million per year, but he is a solid, young player.

Draft
Luke Joeckel - LT - Texas A&M (top 10)
-Top LT prospect, might be best in the country

Taylor Lewan - LT - Michigan (top 10)
-Arguably 2nd best LT prospect in country

Jake Matthews - RT - Texas A&M (top 45)
-Plays RT, and some questions about his ability to play LT

Lane Johnson - LT - Oklahoma (top 75)
-Underrated LT prospect. Will be late riser. Could be a 2nd round steal.

Chance Warmack - LG - Alabama (top 30)
-Similar to DeCastro in he is a top 10 player at a position that gets undervalued. Probably a better athlete than DeCastro was.

Johnathan Cooper - LG - North Carolina (top 45)
-Superb athlete who needs to develop his strength. Would be a second round steal, and I think he is the best OG prospect for a team willing to pull their OGs.

Travis Frederick - OC - Wisconsin (top 100)
-Bulldozer at OC. If you want to upgrade your strength in the middle, he is the guy.

Barrett Jones - OC - Alabama (top 100)
-Former LT which speaks to his athleticism. Not sure of his strength. Plays on a pretty good offensive line.

Khaled Holmes - OC - USC (top 100)
-Seems like he fits the role, but I haven't seen him dominate inside. Looks the part.

Free agents =/= Draft picks. To me, once you sign a guy as a free agent, his draft status goes (largely) out the window, and he gets rated against his salary. It doesn't make sense to say, "Kolb is the best 2nd round QB since Drew Brees!" when he's on his third contract(!) and he's making $9 million per year in salary in 2013 and beyond, and carries a $14 million cap charge.

Snyder and Colledge have enough tape on them that they showed they were the weakest links on their respective lines when we drafted them. Taking Green Bay's and San Francisco's 5th-best offensive linemen and expecting them to be our 3rd and 4th best OL going into the season wasn't a recipe for success to begin with.

Taking those weak links and expecting them to be two of our top 3 OL after and injury to Levi Brown has clearly been a recipe for disaster. I think that this offensive line would be much closer to average if Brown had stayed healthy and we could sit Snyder for Bridges, but that's completely speculative.

That's what I was talking about. A 2nd and a 3rd round pick who were the worst offensive linemen on the team that drafted them. Guys their original team didn't mind letting go.

No certainties in the draft. Just because teams find players like Carl Nicks in the 4th round doesn't mean it is easy to find good OL later in the draft. And in terms of talent, do any of us really think the Saints LT Jermon Bushrod is one of the better LTs in the league? The quality of a QB determines the success of the OL more often than not. Green Bay's offensive line didn't just suddenly get more talented, Aaron Rodgers started getting rid of the football faster. Tom Brady gets crushed in the pre-season and states he has to do a better job getting rid of the football. Denver is struggling protecting Peyton, Peyton goes more no huddle to tire out the defensive rushers.
