Most everyone knew that this season was coming. It happens to just about every team. Success is hard to sustain in the NFL. The Cardinals were built into a Super Bowl team and then lost some key players and the inevitable decline occurred. With this off-season however begins the rebuild.

Most teams go out and do all they can to get back on track. Not the same ol Cardinals though. If this team has truly turned the corner and have left their cheap perennial losing ways in the past like every fan wanted to believe after the Super Bowl then this season will fade into a bad memory while the rise back to the the top is quickly bought and paid for by the new Bidwills...i.e. Michael Bidwill.

This off-season is extremely important to this franchise. Like with any major corporation the changes need to start at the very top and trickle down all throughout the organization. That means the Bidwills must start by changing themselves and make some big spending moves. If this does not happen then just as Bickley alluded to, the lean years will return...and many Cards fans won't.

Same thing you hear from every pending free agent. He'll be in AZ... if they offer him enough money. Same with Lutui, same with Sendlein.

Bickley wants to keep Breaston here because he's always good for a great quote. Breaston is a better person than he is a football player, and he's a pretty good football player.

I don't think everyone knew this season was coming. Just go look at the prediction threads from August and September. The rebuilding was supposed to have been done last off season except at QB and the run game and defense were supposed to make the team competitive enough to win a weak division.

Since that didn't work out I don't have a lot of faith in things getting turned around this Spring by the same people who couldn't do it last off season.

And Duckjake I KNEW this season was coming although I hoped for the best. Some fans are going to think we are going to be good every year and are optimistic - I fall under that bracket from time to time.

But as fans thats what we do. We talk ourselves into projecting success.

The organization knew and deep down the knowlegable fans knew. When Wiz got his extension, you knew he was going to blow it up the way he wanted and while they tried to win this year, the expectations weren't the same as they were in 2008 or 2009. I think DJ wants to have someones head on a stick and say we should have been better, but frankly this 5-7 win plateu is where were at once Warner and the others left.

Thats okay. Like Seadonic said, thats the NFL and very few teams don't have a bad season. Its the good organizations that recognize and rectify. But while many tried to say last offseason was paramount, I never agreed it was moreso then any other.

THIS offseason is critical in every sense of the word. Lets hope the SOC don't show up and that we TRULY have turned the corner.

I see a few big things on the horizon that give me concern from a process perspective:

the CBA process and the Larry Fitzgerald extension.

My single biggest complaint about the way the Cardinal front office goes about its business is that it tends to be paralyzed by uncertainty. The above are two really big uncertainties that need to be resolved and I don't see them doing anything big until that happens.

I'm in the same boat. Few coaches would have suceeded with this roster.

Whis has next season to turn it around, get to about the 8-9 win plateau, or I'm done with him and I bet the team will be as well.

Stop bringing in old re-treads and rebuild with youth, around a young QB. That's what Tampa Bay, PHilly, and some other teams have done. For some reason, Whis has an aversion to playing young guys.

Kolb will likely be available for trade. Palmer may be available for trade. McNabb will likely be traded but it will not be cheap and cost some draft choices. If we draft a promising QB I would like McNabb depending on what he will cost in the way of draft choices. Who knows what Kolb might cost but he is less experience than McNabb and we do not have a lot to go on if we acquire him. That makes that more of a risk than Donovan. I think Hasselback may be finished after one more year. I am not so sure I would want Palmer at this point as he has lacked consistency. McNabb, IMHO, gives us the best chance to keep Fitz.

Some of the experts think, and I agree, we may be better to trade Larry and get a boat load of draft picks. In the long run that may be our best scenario rather than let him walk a year from now. He has very clearly stated that playing football now is no longer about money as he has all he will ever need. He said he now wants a ring.

Actually, I think an old caretaker is perfect if we draft a QB. Collins would be a perfect mentor to Newton/Mallet/Gabbert IMO and would allow us to be competitive in the NFC West next year.

That's an old list. He signed a one-year extension with the Lions after he was traded.

I think that Alex Smith can succeed with this team playing indoors in the shotgun offense that we apparently want to run, where there's little pressure to succeed.
