According to multiple reports, Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby has applied to enter the NFL supplemental draft amid a gambling controversy involving the QB.

The 2026 NFL Draft is already in the books, but the supplemental draft paves the way for players to immediately enter the NFL, if the league accepts Sorsby's application.

The deadline to enter the supplemental draft is June 22.

It didn't take long for speculation to run rampant about which team could potentially bid on Sorsby in the supplemental draft (the team that bids the highest pick on a player in the supplemental draft gets the player, but loses their 2027 draft pick in that round).

The Arizona Cardinals were among the leaders in the speculation to acquire Sorsby, with one site ranking the team as the No. 1 fit for the former Texas Tech QB.

USA TODAY Sports: Arizona Cardinals No. 1 fit for Brendan Sorsby in NFL

Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz writes: "With disgruntled incumbent starter Jacoby Brissett trying to fend off third-round pick Carson Beck, the Cardinals have the most restrained approach to investing resources at quarterback. That nearly blank slate given to first-year coach Mike LaFleur could constitute the optimal setup for Sorsby to launch his professional career. Even if he sat out the entirety of what's sure to be a transitional season for both him and Arizona, Sorsby would still draw a sharp contrast with the veteran Brissett and rookie Beck, neither of whom can measure up in their fluidity as throwers. And after his time working with Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams, LaFleur understands the value in having an offensive catalyst who can reach every level of the field. Embattled general manager Monti Ossenfort has to identify a viable long-term solution behind center, so taking a shot with Sorsby should be in play."

CBS Sports: Arizona Cardinals could take a swing on Brendan Sorsby

Josh Edwards writes: "Arizona retained Jacoby Brissett, signed Gardner Minshew II and drafted Carson Beck in the third-round. Brissett is unhappy with his contract and wants an adjustment as the anticipated starter entering the 2026 season. The Cardinals are probably fine taking its lumps this season without Brissett. What is to stop them from embracing a competition between Sorsby and Beck to usher in the Mike LaFleur era?"

Sports Illustrated: Arizona Cardinals need to take Brendan Sorsby in supplemental draft

Justin Melo writes: "The Arizona Cardinals may be the most sensible landing spot for Sorsby. They currently have the worst starting quarterback situation in the league. Starter Jacoby Brissett and the team have been entrenched in a contract-related standoff this summer, and backup Gardner Minshew doesn't inspire much confidence either. The Cardinals drafted Carson Beck in the third round, but that shouldn't prevent them from considering alternative options. Scouts largely agree Sorsby would have been selected significantly higher than Beck in the 2026 NFL Draft. The rebuilding Cardinals need a long-term answer."

Clutch Points: Arizona Cardinals could see Brendan Sorsby as starter

Lorenzo J. Reyna writes: "The Arizona Cardinals enter the picture here. Kyler Murray bolted and the franchise is trusting veteran backups to lead this team in Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew II. Yet the former is embroiled in a contract standoff with the Cardinals. Sorsby would arrive late ahead of training camp. But Arizona doesn’t present the most glamorous of QB rooms, so Sorsby earns a chance to win over head coach and offensive whiz Mike LaFleur here."

Sportsnaut: Arizona Cardinals potential landing spot for Brendan Sorsby

Andrew Buller-Russ writes: "The Arizona Cardinals‘ QB situation is a bit of a mess. Jacoby Brissett has been named the starter, but he’s being paid like a backup, and he wants QB1 money. Meanwhile, Gardner Minshew is a capable backup. There could be starter upside in third-round rookie Carson Beck, but is the Arizona front office even higher on Sorsby? It wouldn’t hurt to have two high-potential QBs in development, especially if things go awry with Brissett."
