Also, if you are selected and opt not to play in the pro-bowl, then are you dropped from the selection as well for record purposes?

Man, maybe this board HAS poisoned my view of Levi Brown.
i posted that the 2nd ahlf of the year Levi has played pretty well. I don't know about Pro bowl level well but he has picked up his play, especially in the run game. It's funny how Duckjake always says we let Leonard Davis go so we could draft Leonard Davis :D. Well LD, was always a pro bowl alternate as well. I guess DJ was right.

You are right that he has improved. In fact, Beanie's big runs have mostly been to his side. I would have figured there were better pro bowl alternate candidates though.

Morey??? That is a joke. LSH has had a far better year.

What?
Well I'm pretty sure you earn more money playing in the Super Bowl than in the Pro Bowl. And I doubt there's a player in the NFL who would prefer the Pro Bowl to the Super Bowl.

So it seems fair to me? Lots of players bow out every year anyways they don't want to get hurt, this way they don't have to bow out.

If you're on the SB team and the team won't let you play wouldn't you get your money anyway? If the NFL didn't think of that scenario they aren't very smart.

I expect those players would come out for team introductions as starters and then just not play, or maybe take one goofy play and leave or something like that.

the players probably had the same ballot to vote with as the fans, hence LSH having no chance and Morey getting in as an alternate.

So alternates don't count as selected unless there is an injury or pullout of a selected player for whatever reason?

That's how Dockett got his first Pro Bowl berth.

Which is why they really need to scrap it..
You could still be voted as an all-pro etc... I just see little to no reason to keep playing this half-ass game.

Exactly. Make it like "All-American" is for college ball. Playing a game is stupid, but the NFL makes money from it I'm sure. The dollar drives decisions like that.

I'm really surprised Graham didn't get it after winning the fan vote.

Graham got snubbed. Ben Graham is hands-down the best punter in football. I wouldn't trade him for Andy Lee any day.

Stats are somewhat misleading but the combo of Ben + LSH won games for us. And 3 touchbacks compared to Lee's 7? With 39 inside the 20 compared to 28? He blows away Lee's numbers in terms of things that affect a game. And he can kick for distance if needed. Umm net yards are inflated when you kick within your own zone.

Sign him long-term.

Yeah, tell me about it. I would've thought players and coaches would've recognized how great he's been this year. But, they, not the fans, appear to be the ones that screwed him.

Great! I guess if the 49ers make the Super Bowl, Graham's got a chance!

Or if he is friends with Tanya Harding. That is such BS! Who cares about net put yards, that doesn't mean anything compared to the percentage kept in the 20!!! Not to mention how many he had downed within the 5. Lee had 31% inside 20 while Graham had 47.5%!!! WTF!

You guys are here crying about a punter making the Pro Bowl? what about DRC making it over Sheldon Brown? that is a joke. Sheldon statiscally is the best CB in the NFC right next to Charles Woodson.

You're kidding right? Brown had 9 less pass defenses, 1 less interception, and less forced fumbles. Plus, obviously DRC made up ground on the player voting, the most significant portion of the voting. Your argument is factually incorrect.

I watched Larry Fitzgerald totally abuse Sheldon Brown last year in the playoffs. The guy is a shadow of DRC. See you guys in the playoffs! Oh wait! The Niners aren't in the playoffs and are having another non-winning season.

So? Almost every team can make an argument that a player of theirs deserved it and didn't make it. To be honest, i never really noticed much of Brown when i watched you guys play, so I didn't think he was either really good or bad.

The worst selection was Champ Bailey in the AFC.

Brown plays for the Eagles. Fitz totally punked him in the NFC Championship game, a game the Niners won't be playing for this year. :D

Well, hell, no wonder I never noticed him in SF games then. :) I was wondering if the Niners signed him as a free agent. It just didn't compute that a Niners fan was bitching about one of our players in favor of an Eagles player.

You're a joke. If you're going to complain about Sheldon Brown not making it don't choose DRC as the corner Sheldon should replace, choose the corner Sheldon plays across. Outside of getting interceptions, Asante Samuel has been bad. He's given up more deep plays than either DRC or Sheldon and his general cover skills have been lacking. DRC earned his spot in the pro bowl.

Yeah that was actually meant to be my point. Generally speaking most players hate the Pro Bowl game. They love being voted in, but don't want to play because of injury risk.

The NFL should just fly them out to Hawaii, do the press stuff and stop the actual game.

Yeah the one thing I'd say in defense of Samuel is like us with DRC, they blitz alot and leave Samuel man up on the other teams best WR. We do that quite a bit with DRC which is one reason why early in the year he gave up several big plays for TD's. He tended to gamble anyways and being 1 on 1 so much if you gamble and lose, it's a TD usually.

But I do think Samuel might be getting in on rep now.

I didn't look at it like that. It's true, the blitzing has played a role on giving up big plays. The biggest difference between the two is DRC has grown into the role while Samuel is still getting used to it. The last TD that DRC gave up was the one where he bit on the smoke-and-go in the Panthers game.
