Yankees trade rumor for Giants' $313.5M superstar has an obvious Giancarlo Stanton problem originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The New York Yankees are routinely one of the teams mentioned whenever a player is potentially on the move in a trade, whether it's over the offseason or by the trade deadline.

This year will be no different, and with the Yankees looking like one of the best teams in the league, it would hardly be a surprise if they went out and spent big on a trade target to become a top-tier World Series contender.

If they do, their eyes might naturally fall on San Francisco Giants $313.5 million superstar Rafael Devers. He's a familiar face from his days with the Boston Red Sox, but as Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer highlighted, there is one issue with a trade.

"Devers and Yankee Stadium go way back, but the Yankees need the DH spot for Giancarlo Stanton when he's healthy," Rymer writes.

Sure, in theory, the Yankees trading for Devers from the Giants would make a ton of sense. But with Stanton entrenched at DH, it's going to be difficult for such a blockbuster deal to be worked out.

The Yankees aren't going to have an easy fit for Devers on the MLB roster, with Ben Rice and Paul Goldschmidt manning first base, and Stanton at the DH spot.

If Devers could move back to third base, then maybe the Yankees could bring him in. But Devers isn't a good defender, and with Ryan McMahon already manning 3B, trading for Devers to place him back at his old position doesn't make much sense.

The Yankees being involved in Devers trade rumors shouldn't be a surprise, as they've been consistently mentioned in trade talks with almost everyone who becomes available for trade.

Except this time, there's not an easy fit for Devers on the MLB roster, thanks mainly to Stanton at DH. If he were not on the roster, then Devers would've made perfect sense as a trade target. But, with their current roster structure, Devers isn't a viable trade target.
