Dodgers trade rumor for Giants' .849 OPS All-Star makes no sense for two reasons originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have shown they are not afraid to spend.

But they will only do so if the fit makes sense. The same can be said about making trades.

Los Angeles is in a great situation with Shohei Ohtani at DH and Freddie Freeman at first base. Having said that, now is not the best time to consider a league-altering trade with their division rivals, the San Francisco Giants.

"Of all the places [Rafael] Devers could get traded, to the Giants' most longstanding rival is probably the least likely," wrote Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer. "And besides, the Dodgers have no need to upgrade over Shohei Ohtani at DH or Freddie Freeman at first base."

The Giants acquired Devers from the Boston Red Sox less than a year ago, but they could already be looking to move on.

Devers to the Dodgers makes no sense for the reasons Rymer listed. It would be borderline impossible for manager Dave Roberts to find equal playing time for all Devers, Ohtani, and Freeman.

Not to mention, it would be ludicrous to take at-bats away from Ohtani and Freeman for a player hitting .241 with a .677 OPS through 42 games.

Unless Freeman unexpectedly retires, Devers to the Dodgers will never make logical sense.
