Yankees should avoid everyone else but this $325 million World Series MVP originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
There continue to be a lot of questions about the New York Yankees potentially adding a star infielder at the trade deadline.
It still remains uncertain who's going to be available, though there seems to be a belief that guys like Ketel Marte, Corey Seager, and others could be had for the right price. The Yankees will ultimately have to decide whether they want to move on from the necessary prospect haul to land players of that caliber.
Bleacher Report recently listed Seager as a potential trade candidate, and though there's an argument to keep him on the roster because of what he's done for the organization and being the face of the franchise at the moment, if he indeed becomes available, this is where the Yankees need to get involved.
“Corey Seager is going to miss 30-40 games every regular season, but he's a two-time World Series MVP that puts up Hall of Fame-caliber production when he's on the field. The 32-year-old is owed $157.5 million over the next five seasons. He has an eight-team no-trade clause, and is the face of the franchise, so the Rangers may not be able and/or willing to move him,” Tim Kelly of BR wrote.
The question for the Yankees here is whether they feel comfortable with Seager manning shortstop and moving somebody like Jose Caballero to third base. The idea here would be to move on from Ryan McMahon in either this trade or a separate trade, as the Yankees obviously would not want to take on both contracts at the same time.
Seager certainly has his fair share of injury history to consider, but as a player, there aren't many better infielders in baseball.
