Mets’ Francisco Lindor trade update will shock fans, but it shouldn’t originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New York Mets, 23-33 and 3-7 over the last 10 games, continue to be the most disappointing team in Major League Baseball by a very wide margin.
It's been unfortunate to watch everything unfold for the Mets this season, but it's just the reality of how things are currently going. The Mets have been that brutal on both sides of the baseball, and it's definitely led to questions about who could be traded.
Obviously, we know some guys aren't going to be dealt, which seems to include Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto. Lindor hasn't played the type of baseball Mets fans have been hoping for over the past year or so, while Soto has been just as good as advertised.
Moving on from either player would be a surprise, but it sounds like some believe there's a possibility that Lindor could at least be had for the right price now. As shocking as that might be, it might not be as crazy an idea as it initially seems.
“Even if the Mets wanted to sell, what would that look like? Soto isn't going anywhere,” Tim Kelly of BR wrote.
"Francisco Lindor, we think, would also be off limits. Would someone want to trade for Bo Bichette, knowing he can opt out this offseason if he has a strong finish?”
Moving on from Lindor would be a decision that probably isn't loved by all fans, but I think most would at least understand it. With his contract situation in play, however, it's tough to find a scenario in which the Mets can find the perfect deal to make.
