TORONTO — The Yankees are back in Toronto this weekend for the first time since their 2025 season was doomed in Rogers Centre … eight losses in nine games, including the first two of a best-of-five Division Series that the Blue Jays won in four.

Two innings into Friday night’s series opener, it was more of the same with the Blue Jays leading 5-0 and on their way to an 8-5 victory.

And then things got worse for the Yankees. While they were coming back in the middle innings, they lost another key player to an injury.

Center fielder Trent Grisham, the Yankees’ hottest hitter for almost a month, felt discomfort in his right hamstring rounding first base on his a two-run double in the sixth inning.

Grisham slowed up running to second, then looked to have an awkward knee-first slide into the bag. He was replaced by pinch-runner Max Schuemann during a Blue Jays replay challenge, which confirmed the safe call.

After the game, Grisham said it was too early to know how serious his hamstring issue is.

“I’ll wake up (Saturday) and see how I feel,” he said. “Hopefully it’s good news, no, IL. But we’ll see.”

Grisham going on the injured list would be a big blow for a club that already has three regulars sidelined: Right fielder Aaron Judge (fractured right rib), designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton (right calf strain) and catcher Austin Wells (cervical headaches).

Outfielder Jasson Dominguez, who began the season in the minors, also is on the IL, would replace Grisham if a roster move is made before Saturday’s game.

“He could be in play,” manager Aaron Boone said.

Dominguez has been on the injured list since May 8 with a left shoulder sprain, but he’s played five rehab games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre since June 5. On Friday night, he made his third start in right field and was 1-for-4 with a homer in a 6-3 home loss to Lehigh Valley in Moosic, Pa.

The Yankees had planned to make a decision on Dominguez returning after he played right field on Friday or Saturday, but Grisham’s injury could change the schedule.

If Dominguez is back on Saturday, he’ll probably be in the right field mix along with Jose Caballero and Max Schuemann with rookie Spencer Jones getting starts in center.

Jones started Friday’s game in right field, then moved to center after Grisham departed.

Grisham had an injury scare last month when he left a May 20 game against the Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium with left knee discomfort. He returned to the lineup after missing one game.

Grisham, who was 1-for-4 on the night, is hitting .232 with eight homers, 35 RBI and a .747 OPS in 65 games. Since May 19, he’s batting .370 with two homers and eight RBI in 19 games, raising his average 66 points. He batted .166 over his first 48 games while hitting a lot of hard-hit balls for outs.

“He’s been great,” Boone said of Grisham before Friday’s game. “I really think he’s kind of been the same all year. Early on in the first month, he was kind of unlucky and not getting results, and now he’s getting results. But I feel like the at-bats have been consistent from day one, and I feel like obviously he’s been a really important player to us.

“It’s been good to see how productive he’s been here over the last few weeks, especially.”
