NEW YORK - Jazz Chisholm Jr. was out for early, extra batting practice prior to Friday's game.

Working one-on-one with Yankees batting coach James Rowson at empty Yankee Stadium, Chisholm was hitting off the high velocity machine, about four hours before first pitch versus the Kansas City Royals.

Among the Yankees off to a rough start at the plate, Chisholm is batting .179 (12-for-67) over his first 19 games with no home runs and three RBI in 74 plate appearances.

Of course, the Yankees are also still waiting on Austin Wells and Ryan McMahon to pick it up, but there are seven Yankees so far batting under .200 through their first 19 games.

Overall, the Yanks are batting .214, third last in the American League, as they open a three-game home series, with veteran Royals' righty Michael Wacha (2-0, 0.43 ERA) opposing the Yanks' Cam Schlittler (2-1, 2.49 ERA) in Friday night's opener.

McMahon is on the bench again Friday night, with Amed Rosario getting the start at third base.

Here is the Yankees' lineup:

  1. Trent Grisham, CF
  2. Aaron Judge, RF
  3. Cody Bellinger, LF
  4. Giancarlo Stanton, DH
  5. Ben Rice, 1B
  6. Amed Rosario, 3B
  7. Jazz Chisholm Jr., 2B
  8. Jose Caballero, SS
  9. Austin Wells, C
