NEW YORK - Aaron Judge is not in the lineup as the Yankees arrive home to begin a three-game set against the Cleveland Guardians.
The Yanks' captain has started the first 59 games of the season, 53 in right field and six at DH. Aaron Boone speaks to the media at about 4:10 p.m., so we'll find out if this is just an added day of rest or something else.
Jose Caballero is starting in right field tonight and Ben Rice, coming off his AL Player of the Week award, is the DH.
Meanwhile, it's a Cam Schlittler start, which has become appointment viewing even beyond Yankees Universe.
Entering Tuesday night's meeting against Cleveland at Yankee Stadium, the 25-year-old right-hander is leading MLB pitchers in WAR (3.2, per Baseball-Reference.com), ERA (1.50) and WHIP (0.847).
Schlittler (7-2) ranks sixth in strikeouts per nine innings at 10.125, and he's the leading candidate to be on the mound in Philadelphia next month as starter for the American League All-Stars.
Coming off a 5-1 road trip through Kansas City and Sacramento, the Yankees (36-23) - one game behind the AL East-leading Rays - will face lefty starter Joey Cantillo (4-2, 3.57) in the opener of a three-game set against the AL Central-leading Guardians (34-27).
Yankees right-handed hitting utilityman Amed Rosario was activated off the paternity list prior to tonight's game.
