The fun part of the World Cup is here.
After three matchdays of group play, the field of the biggest sporting event in the world has been dwindled down to 32 teams. Now comes the knockout phase, where the winner of each game advances while the loser heads home.
MetLife Stadium will host two matches — one Round of 32 match on Tuesday, June 30 and one Round of 16 match on Sunday, July 5 — over the next week before taking a two-week break ahead of hosting the championship game on Sunday, July 19.
Here are the teams that will play for their tournament lives in the Garden State:
Round of 32 (June 30 at 5 p.m.): France (Winner of Group I) vs. Sweden (third-place in Group F).
The winner of this match will face the winner of Germany-Paraguay in the Round of 16 in Philadelphia on Saturday, July 4. It will mark the second time the French play in New Jersey; it defeated Senegal, 3-1, in the opening matchday of their group.
Round of 16 (July 5 at 4 p.m.): Winner of Brazil-Japan vs. Winner of Ivory Coast-Norway.
The winner of this match will advance to a quarterfinal match in Miami on Saturday, July 11.
Brazil and Norway each played in New Jersey during the group stage. The Brazilians drew 1-1 against Morocco, while the Norwegians defeated Senegal in a 3-2 thriller.
