What was once 48 has dwindled down to 32. The 2026 World Cup advances past the group stage and onto the knockout round.
Just five wins separates one of those teams from making history, but obviously a few teams have it harder than others. Some fans have already pointed out that tournament favorite Argentina has a pretty easy path to the quarterfinals, with only Switzerland and Colombia posing serious threats to the reigning World Cup champions, and Argentina will only have to face one of them.
Meanwhile, Portugal has matchups lined up against 2022 third-place finisher Croatia, tournament favorite Spain, and then likely either the United States or Belgium.
Still, despite an arduous path ahead, many of these teams have World Cup aspirations and cannot wait to play their first all-or-nothing game of the tournament. Here is the full bracket and schedule for the round of 32.
The round of 16 will begin on Saturday, July 4 with two games featuring the winners of the Germany and Paraguay game taking on the winners of the matchup between France and Sweden.
The other game will see the winners of the Canada-South Africa game take on the winner between the Netherlands and Morocco.
The quarterfinals will take place July 9-11. The semifinals, July 14-15, and the finals on July 19.
