Wings make roster decision on Paige Bueckers' teammate that thins out guard depth originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
All season, the Dallas Wings have had something of a logjam in the backcourt.
There is such a thing as too many guard options, and Dallas only added to the competition at the position by drafting Azzi Fudd, signing Odyssey Sims and re-signing Arike Ogunbowale -- in addition to retaining All-Star Paige Bueckers
On Sunday, hours after an 84-83 loss to the Portland Fire, the Wings made a roster move to address the guard congestion and give one of their young guards a fresh start.

Dallas waived second-year guard JJ Quinerly on Sunday as the former West Virginia standout's struggle for playing time continued.
Quinerly missed the start of the 2026 season as she recovered from a knee injury, but she had a major challenge to carve out a role after a solid rookie season in 2025.

Quinerly played just two games for Dallas this season and scored two points in 12 total minutes.
As a rookie though, Quinerly played in 34 games and averaged 6.5 points in 15.9 minutes, often starting next to Bueckers.
With her quickness, scoring potential and solid defense, Quinerly will get another WNBA chance as she hits waivers in anticipation of her next chapter.
