Boston Red Sox slugger Willson Contreras knows the team has to get back on track at home.

The Red Sox will return home after going 3-3 in their six-game road trip against the St. Louis Cardinals and Minnesota Twins. On the homestead, Boston will take on Detroit for three games before AL East rival New York Yankees come to town.

With how close the AL is, Contreras knows this six-game homestead is key for Boston to get back on track and use the home crowd as motivation.

“It's going to be important. I think these two series are going to be important for all of us,” Contreras said postgame on Wednesday, via MLB.com. “I think we have to play with a lot of energy in front of our crowd and we have to feel the support of the Boston Red Sox fans and we have to come out of the gate playing well.”

The Red Sox ended their road trip with a 9-5 win over the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday to avoid being swept.

Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story echoed Contreras’ comments, and he knows Boston is much better than they have been playing.

“We're (almost three) weeks into the season, and we feel like we haven't played anywhere close to our best baseball,” said Story. “We’re 7-11 and it could be way worse. I feel like once we get rolling and once we get to doing the things that we know we can do on a consistent basis, we'll be excited about that.”

Boston is off to a 7-11 start.
