Yup, cost only goes up. Keim screwed the pooch by not extending Zach Allen a year early.
For me there just aren't enough long term contract concerns for me not to.

I look at the Texans roster and think, the gap in talent isn't THAT far with competent coaching. I think David Bailey can be as good as Will Anderson and Josh Sweat is in the convo of being as good as Hunter is now. That said, can you find a QB who can function as well as CJ Stroud without using the 3rd pick? And if you have to use the 3rd pick on a QB, can you get a top level pass rusher.

Not to be too much of a dick, but is Demeco Ryans a significantly better HC than the defensive coaches available given a Stroud level QB? His DC was on the AZ staff in 2022. He has @Cbus cardsfan 's favorite coach Bill Davis on his staff. He has a McVay guy as his OC.

Maybe I am just a hater.

I would extend him asap. Same with Wilson.
Why? He’s probably not going to make the Pro Bowl next year, either. There are no discounts on top 5 picks, and we’re cap constrained for the time being.

I would make a major push to sign Wilson though.

Two reasons.

1 - An extension factors in his projected 2026 salary and 2027 5th year option which benefits AZ because, he has not accrued multiple pro bowls. You can extend for 3 years which puts his last year at age 29, part of his guaranteed money will be his 5th year options, and you can spread his cap hit out over 5 years which can make him easier to move off of if he doesn't progress. If you told me I could get PJJ at 22 mil for 5 years, I would do that in a world where Dan Moore Jr just got 20.5 in FA.

2 - 2026 might be a pinch but after that, there are no big contracts expected. MHJ has underwhelmed so far. GWill will be coming off injury. No one else from the 2024 draft class looks like a need. Maybe Stills? Why not lock in a top 12 LT?

EDIT 3 - Because 2027 is so light, you can structure the contract so 2026 is light, and then base salary bumps in 2027 where only McBride, Sweat, MHJ, and Wilson (I hope) make over 6 mil given Murray and Baker will not be on the roster at that point.

Because I don’t really think he’s a top 12 LT right now? He’s definitely not Arguably Top Five.

I think they can extend him after this season for basically the same value they’d get this year with no downside.

Shouldn't you take a day to celebrate the humiliation in Pittsburgh? :)
Oh, I'm not taking a day. Not even a week. I will revel in sports talk radio here for WEEKS. Months probably, because the Stillers will be without a QB and have a sucky coach. Bwahahahahahaha!

They ended up with a good player. Not as good. Not a Big John. Anderson is a Big John. PJJ isn't.
given where the Texans are, I get its hard to argue otherwise

but PJJ is a LT that they pretty much never gave help to while having Evan Brown next to him. This is a LT who can lock things down for 10 years. There is a ton of value in that.

Monti could have taken Tyee Wilson. THAT would have been a disaster.

Not when I called it out before it happened and we have the same idiot drafting for us again this year. You gonna cry spilled milk when Monti muffs it again?
I understand and totally respect you foresight on this. Personally I’m choosing to looking forward to the next idiotic moves forthcoming. :)

I don’t know about that.

It can be argued that Houston has 5 of the top 20-25 best players on defense. For us, I only think Nolen can be that. Will, I’m still undecided on. I feel Sweat has maxed out.

Hello Steeler fans, might I interest you in a slightly used Kyler Murray

He hasn’t even been able to lock things down for 17 games in a row at left tackle.
