Jaylen Brown has not played a game for the Philadelphia 76ers.
Yet, his name is already coming up in trade conversations.
One anonymous member of an NBA front office believes Brown could face the same problem that he did with the Boston Celtics.
"Jaylen is a great player and he is not going to be a locker room problem or anything like that, but if he wasn’t real happy sharing the ball with Jayson Tatum, how happy is he going to be in this set-up? Isn’t it the same issue?" an NBA executive said, per Heavy.
Heavy's Sean Deveney went on to write, "Brown is not a free agent until 2029, but he will be extension eligible next year, and if the Sixers balk on paying him, they could be putting Brown back on the market."
This is nothing more than foolish speculation. Any 76ers fan made nervous by the headline should ease their worries.
As previously mentioned, Brown has not even suited up for Philadelphia yet, meaning there is nothing to base this claim off of other than past chatter. Brown and Tatum won a championship together as a 1A, 1B duo, so clearly playing alongside him was not that much of an issue.
The other illogical piece of this claim is why is there an assumption the Sixers won't extend Brown? He is an All-NBA wing, proven winner, two-way player, and much more, all at only 29 years old.
He may not lineup perfectly with the championship window of the backcourt duo of Tyrese Maxey and V.J. Edgecombe, but he can still help Philadelphia compete for years to come. There's also an argument to be made that Brown's arrival means having a healthy Joel Embiid is a luxury and not a necessity.
Could this be a more realistic conversation to have next offseason? Sure, but to make this claim before his first game as a member of the 76ers is bold.
