The Philadelphia 76ers already made a blockbuster trade this offseason by acquiring Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics, but why stop at one major deal?

Well, that's the belief of CBS Sports' Sam Quinn anyway.

Quinn proposed a blockbuster swap that would send Joel Embiid and draft capital to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Anthony Davis.

"Here's the wild suggestion: Joel Embiid and draft capital for Anthony Davis," Quinn wrote.

Unless the 76ers receive a guarantee from free agent LeBron James that he'll sign in the event Philadelphia acquires Davis, the front office should avoid this trade at all costs.

Embiid and Davis share the issue: availability. Embiid has not appeared in more than 65 games since the 2022-2023 season and played in 38 games last season while Davis has been on the floor for more than 65 games once since the 2018-2019 campaign.

So, it begs the question of why the 76ers would bother swapping Embiid and draft capital for Davis. The answer: they shouldn't.

Sure Davis may have a lesser contract (three-year, $175 million) in terms of time and annual salary, but it's not a big enough margin to justify the trade from Philadelphia's perspective.

When healthy, Embiid is arguably the best big man in the NBA, especially on the offensive end. He averaged 26.9 points on 48.9% shooting last season. His blend of size, athleticism, and shooting touch is unmatched by any other player across the association.

That's not a knock on Davis, however, who is dominant in his own right and is widely regarded as one of the league's top defenders when at full strength.

The trade does make sense for the Wizards, as they're landing the more talented player along with picks.

76ers President of Basketball Operations Mike Gansey is already proving to be one of the craftiest minds in the NBA, so don't expect him to make a foolish move like this unless a major signing is following close behind.
