The Philadelphia 76ers have more of what would be considered a 'Big Four' in Tyrese Maxey, V.J. Edgecombe, Jaylen Brown, and Joel Embiid.
However, when talking from a ranking standpoint, someone is not going to make the cut as part of Philadelphia's 'Big Three.' Bleacher Report believes Embiid is on the chopping block in that scenario, ranking the trio of Maxey, Edgecombe, and Brown as the No. 5 best in the NBA.
"This might be a shot in the dark, claiming this newly formed trio as a Big Three for Philadelphia," B/R's Mo Dakhil wrote. "For starters, Joel Embiid is not included because it is hard to count on him consistently given his injury history... On the nights Embiid is healthy, Philadelphia can create even more lineup combinations. Even without relying on Embiid, though, the Brown trade has given the 76ers the foundation of a legitimate Big Three."
The 76ers were slotted behind the Cleveland Cavaliers (Donovan Mitchell, James Harden, Evan Mobley), Oklahoma City Thunder (Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren), San Antonio Spurs (Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper), and New York Knicks (Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby).
If Embiid is healthy, there's arguably no better 'Big Three' in the NBA. If Edgecombe is included instead, No. 5 is a fair placement.
A healthy trio of Maxey, Brown, and Embiid is home to three All-NBA players, which no other team can say. The mixture of offensive talent, defensive prowess, and athleticism is simply unmatched even by the reigning champion Knicks.
The reality is coach Nick Nurse is spoiled with talent heading into next season, especially if the Sixers manage to land LeBron James. Using that skill effectively is a challenge in its own, though, because of the sheer number of mouths to feed in the starting lineup.
The hope is this new-look 'Big Three,' along with Embiid, will have little to no issues blending on the floor together, whether the lineup is staggered or all on the floor at once.
