The Philadelphia 76ers are finally earning respect after the blockbuster trade for Jaylen Brown.
Philadelphia's roster overhaul this offseason is one of the most well received across the league, as the additions of Brown, Dean Wade, Anfernee Simons, and others greatly outweigh the losses of Quentin Grimes, Kelly Oubre Jr., and more.
In the New York Post's new NBA power rankings, the 76ers are slotted at No. 6, whereas Bleacher Report placed them relatively low at No. 11. The Sixers came in one spot behind the Toronto Raptors and one rank ahead of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
"It’s easy to see the 76ers having a big year, led by the big four of Jaylen Brown, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe. But there are depth and chemistry questions to be answered for this top-heavy roster," Zach Brazziler wrote.
No. 6 is a much more appropriate ranking for the new-look Philadelphia squad. Its ceiling is as high as any team, but the floor is rather low due to the health concerns surrounding Joel Embiid.
Embiid is still an integral part of the Sixers being successful, and he only appeared in 38 games last season. This is not a recipe for success, but all it will take is a single healthy postseason run to lead to much success for the team.
The core of Tyrese Maxey, V.J. Edgecombe, and Brown should have no issues carrying the Sixers through the regular season. Then, it will be Embiid's job to take over when it matters most.
If the rankings were based off potential, there'd arguably be no one higher than the 76ers. Unfortunately, it needs to be a mixture of their ceiling along with their floor.
