Ole Miss baseball pitcher Hunter Elliott has had a taste of the NCAA Tournament at the highest level.
Elliott will start for the Rebels (36-21) against Arizona State in the Lincoln Regional on May 29 (8 p.m., ESPN2). He is a redshirt junior from Tupelo.
Elliott is the last player remaining for Ole Miss who was on the 2022 national championship team. Elliott was a true freshman on that team, but he was a major contributor.
As a freshman, Elliott finished second on the team in ERA and started the game the clinched the national championship against Oklahoma.
Now a redshirt junior, Elliott is a team leader who will play a major role in the regional for the Rebels.
Elliott has been Ole Miss' Friday night starter this season. He is 5-3 with a 5.07 ERA.
Elliott has struck out 96 batters and walked 34 in 71 innings.
He was strong for the Rebels in the 2025 postseason. Elliott pitched seven innings, including one out of the bullpen, in the 2025 regional and allowed one earned run.
Elliott was not drafted in 2025, but he was considered a draft-worthy prospect. After the first few rounds, Elliott took his name out of the draft by announced he would return to Ole Miss.
Elliott can return to Ole Miss in 2027. He will also likely be drafted in the middle-to-later rounds, if he chooses to become a professional.
The MLB Draft is July 11-12 in Philadelphia.
Elliott is in his fifth season at Ole Miss, but just his third season that has not been cut short due to injuries.
Elliott pitched just twice in 2023 before having season-ending Tommy John surgery. He missed the entire 2024 season. Because he got a medical redshirt, he has the chance to return in 2027 as a sixth-year senior.
