Ole Miss baseball is going with Hunter Elliott as its starter in an elimination game in the College World Series.
Elliott and the Rebels (41-22) will take on Troy (38-31) on June 14 (1 p.m. CT, ESPN) at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska.
It's the first time Ole Miss has made the College World Series since winning the national title in 2022. Hunter, a junior, is the last remaining player from that 2022 team.
Here's what to know about the star left-handed pitcher.
Elliott has been Ole Miss' Friday night starter this season. He is 5-3 with a 5.15 ERA. Elliott has struck out 102 batters and walked 42 in 80⅓ innings. He made the SEC All-Defensive team this season.
But Elliott was not picked to start Ole Miss' College World Series opener vs North Carolina June 12. Coach Mike Bianco went with Taylor Rabe, who pitched 5⅔ innings and allowed one run before Ole Miss' bullpen collapsed in a 6-2 loss.
In this year's NCAA Tournament, Elliott has appeared twice, allowing 12 hits and six earned runs with eight walks and six strikeouts in 9⅓ innings.
He was strong for the Rebels in the 2025 postseason. Elliott pitched seven innings, including one out of the bullpen, in the 2025 regional and allowed one earned run.
Ole Miss is 7-0 when Elliott starts an NCAA Tournament game in his career.
Elliott made two starts the last time Ole Miss went to the College World Series in 2022. Against Arkansas in the Rebels' second game of the tournament, he allowed three runs, only one earned, in 6⅓ innings, giving up six hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Ole Miss won 13-5.
Elliott also started the Rebels' final game against Oklahoma, which they won 4-2 to clinch the national title. Elliott pitched 6⅔ innings, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks with six strikeouts.
Elliott was not drafted in 2025, but he was considered a draft-worthy prospect. After the first few rounds, Elliott took his name out of the draft and announced he would return to Ole Miss.
Elliott can return to Ole Miss in 2027. He will also likely be drafted in the middle-to-later rounds, if he chooses to become a professional in 2026.
The MLB Draft is July 11-12 in Philadelphia.
Elliott is in his fifth season at Ole Miss, but just his third season that has not been cut short due to injuries.
Elliott pitched just twice in 2023 before having season-ending Tommy John surgery. He missed the entire 2024 season. Because he got a medical redshirt, he has the chance to return in 2027 as a sixth-year senior.
Elliott is from Tupelo, Mississippi, and went to Tupelo High School.
