I'd rather just go with Brisket in that scenario. We know he has some chemistry with Wilson. That is more than what we know about Carr.
IMO, Brissett isn’t a starting NFL QB. Most of his numbers came in garbage time. Who knows if Willis is a starting NFL QB, but I think that’s who the Cardinals will go after. That being said, the Cardinals should keep Brissett around just in case.

To me, this is the key.
In league coaching circles people are generally fairly honest with each other with regards to players as you never know when you’re going to be unemployed and the guy you’re talking to could be hiring you. Imagine there’s even more honesty among siblings.

Well, they showed everything at practice to enable the people that employed him to be comfortable that they could start. And they were drafted to start.

Malik Willis is a failed QB cut by the team that drafted him that had one good start in the last year (on paper) in a game where the Packers got boat raced by the Ravens. In a game they were down 2 scores half way through the 2nd quarter he still only made 21 pass attempts.

You want to bin Kyler for worse Kyler.

And there is no "LeFleur system". Mike's scheme will be very different from Matt's scheme.
Mike LaFleur will be most likely running some variation of the Shanahan/McVay system. That's what his brother runs too.

I actually mostly agree with you, Ouchie - except when it comes to the QB-position. In my opinion, your conviction in a quarterback overrules everything about resource management, simply because it is so essential to have a quality QB. If you are only pretty sure that he will be good, then sure, your strategy is certainly the correct one.

I just think that even if you are convinced that all 31 other teams do not rate the specific quarterback as high as you, it is still too risky to play the draft-game with that. You could be wrong, and then you have missed a golden opportunity to change your franchise. With every other position, I think you are completely correct.
I get your point. If there’s a chance even one other club likes your guy as much as you then you’re gambling you guess when to take him before the other team. But I think the better GM’s are adept at this and still getting value.

You’d rather watch Checkdown Kyler?

You missed the part where i said I don't want Kyler? Perfectly happy to trade him, I just don't want the next part of the plan to be Jimmy G

They will get a 4th round pick from Jets for Murray.

Sign Malik Willis as FA, with his connection to coach Mike's brother in GB playing a factor

Jacoby Brissett is a backup QB as evidenced by his 1-11 record as a starter in 2025.

Might snag a QB in third round too.

It really is stunning to me that you still cannot see it. You are making a projection, BritCard. Even though you say they are BS and that they cannot be done. You do know that negative projections exist, right?

No, it's not a projection. It's literally based on what he has done in the league. A projection is imagining what might be using the data that already exists "Well this is the result we have seen, but if you look at X, Y and Z then the future result could be this".

I'm not projecting anything, I'm just saying what he has shown to be, and that is clearly that his ceiling is no better than Kyler and his floor is way, way worse.

kinda two paths:

its not the same

Willis got his 240 on 30% fewer completions

and again: its 4 games of real NFL data to evaluate when you project. You can claim its nothing, but its way, way more than nothing.

if the Cardinals got QB play from Kyler where they averaged 240 yards a game on 24 attempts and a 5 or 6 to 1 TD / INT ratio we would be talking the size of his extension rather than cutting or trading him

It's a tiny sample size and one of these games he was behind two scores in Q2.

Spot appearing as a backup is a million miles away from being the guy. I guarantee you, and I've never been more sure of anything, that Willis would be worse than Kyler.

I mean, Brissett has done far more in his career, and far more last season, to say he's better than Willis. And it's not even close.

People here are hanging their hats on some average stats from Willis in a small sample size to project something very different int he future when Brissett showed far more in his games last year than Willis ever had.

If I was to show stats from last year to any fans in the league and say "Which of these 2 QBs would you rather start for you next year?" every single one would pick JB.

I'm not saying i want to keep Kyler I'm saying I don't want to watch Jimmy checkdown at QB next year

Jimmy G has a career 8.2 YPA.

Kyler's is 7.

Matt Staffords is 7.4.

I know people will want to reply that he had a lot of YAC with Deebo and Kittle but his air yards per attempt is just under 8. Kyler's is 6.8 and Stafford is 7.32.

I don't want Jimmy G because we can do that with JB, but just for the sake of accuracy.

Since Willis has had limited time starting when he does the DC's around the league will have tape on him and scheme the defenses against him

I'm not saying no/yes to him, it's just if we bring him in we have to temper our expectations and he has to come at a reasonable price

To be fair, you and those calling for Malik are making huge projections.

I don't see the Malik Willis love at all. Other than playing for LaFleur's brother, what does he bring to the table? Maybe you get a Sam Darnold, Daniel Jones renaissance but those 2 were high first round picks that flamed out elsewhere. Willis is not.

To be fair the last time we saw Jimmy G for any extended time he was averaging 7.1 YPA and 5.56 air yards per attempt.

I think it’s far more likely we get Cousins than Jimmy G.

Yes, that is my point. Both sides are.
No, they aren't. Taking a small sample size and projecting into a career sample size (or at least a few seasons) is projecting. Doubting that those numbers will project into a top-notch starting QB is not projecting. It is doubting. I find myself on the doubters side with MW, but I understand the need for hope.

There are a couple who seem to it the profile. I think the class is a bit different if you view it from the 2024 lens vs 2025 lens.

Ty Simpson tho he doesn't have the games played experience.

Grant Nussmeier has some tools but I don't know that he can hold up physically.

Klubnik has a quick release and a ton of starts. I don't know that he was getting the best QB coaching at Clemson.

Luke Altmyer has some juice. I think he played ok against some very good teams. I don't know about his arm and how it translates.

I think most of these guys are players you draft to be your future backup QB with hopes maybe the lottery ticket hits. The plan has to be to draft a QB in 2027 but no reason to not use a mid round pick on one of these guys that MLF likes.
What pick are you willing to spend on Simpson or Nussmeier?

Very little, but what I have seen has been encouraging, and he easily has the most upside of any potential options other than buying someone.

I am sticking to my guess that Garoppolo will be the week one starter, but if I had my will, going with a QB with such a high ceiling as Willis would give me the most excitement going into next season. Sure, it might fail miserably, but it might also make the Cardinals relevant again.

To me, whatever LaFleur wants, I am cool with. And if he points at Willis, after getting every possible inside detail from his brother, I am board with that, especially if it is a relatively short contract.
Certainly Jimmy G will get extensive consideration. However, his lack of mobility will occasion a significant survivability concern.

I say no Maliks..this team needs a draft pick at qb; no re-treads, washed up has beens.
That’s a fine idea, but where do you see the Cards picking next year? It’s likely low enough they might have to give 3 numbers ones to get a top guy. That’s likely not even enough to get Manning. Everyone looks at 2027 as the holy grail. Until it plays out there may be only 3 QBs worth having and 7 teams wanting them. We need to stop thinking of 2027 being a sure thing. They could easily end up with another Rosen. I’d rather take a chance on Willis and if he bombs the Cards are actually in a better spot to trade. 2 chances to win instead of 1.
