Wisconsin's 2025-26 basketball season yet again met an early end in the NCAA Tournament, as the team fell in the first round to No. 12-seed High Point.

The result extended the program's Sweet Sixteen drought. It last reached the second weekend in 2016-17; Greg Gard's first full season as head coach.

The program has still experienced immense success under Gard. He boasts a 237-128 overall record, eight NCAA Tournament appearances and two Big Ten regular-season titles. That record is even more impressive considering Wisconsin's recent experience with losing top players to the transfer portal; in a span of three years, both Chucky Hepburn and John Blackwell elected to play their final seasons elsewhere.

Gard's salary somewhat reflects the relatively limited resources he has at his disposal, at least compared to the top programs in the sport. The Wisconsin head coach makes $3,850,000 per year, according to the recently released USA TODAY database. That salary ranks No. 33 nationally and No. 11 in the Big Ten.

Gard and his staff again have their work cut out this offseason. The program is tasked with replacing four starters, including star guards Nick Boyd and Blackwell. While Gard has excelled in the portal in recent offseasons, this year may pose a heightened challenge.
