By no means has the Wisconsin Badgers basketball program stalled under longtime head coach Greg Gard, but with the re-arrival of now-Athletic Director Shawn Eichorst, there appears to be, as Gard puts it, “a breath of fresh air.”

“It was a home-run hire and I thought it was exactly what we needed at this part of time. The experience he has, the places he's been, what he's been exposed to, what he's seen, what he's had success with,” Gard said, according to the Journal Sentinel's John Steppe.

Eichorst comes to Wisconsin after serving the University of Texas as the school’s Deputy Athletic Director since 2018. Eichorst has also served in the Athletics Director role at both the University of Miami and the University of Nebraska.

Prior to those aforementioned stops and another at the University of South Carolina, Eichorst worked at Wisconsin for five years as a Senior Associate Athletic Director, Executive Associate Athletic Director, and Deputy Athletics Director.

Eichorst is taking the role that was previously held by Chris McIntosh, as McIntosh recently became the Big Ten’s first-ever Deputy Commissioner for Strategy.
