Cody Mauch's 2025 season barely had an opportunity to get started before an injury ended it. Entering 2026, Pro Football Focus hasn't forgotten what the Tampa Bay Buccaneers guard showed before going down.
PFF's Dalton Wasserman ranked Mauch No. 32 among NFL guards heading into the upcoming season. While that puts him outside the top half of the rankings, Wasserman believes a healthy season could quickly move Mauch much higher.
The reason for that optimism comes from what Mauch accomplished in 2024. He earned a 74.6 PFF grade, which ranked 16th among qualified guards that season, while allowing just two sacks and one quarterback hit.
"Mauch looked like a budding stalwart at right guard for Tampa Bay in 2024," Wasserman wrote.
Mauch never got the opportunity to build on that performance last season. He suffered a torn meniscus in Week 2 that sidelined him for the remainder of the year, leaving Tampa Bay without its starting right guard for nearly the entire season.
That injury helps explain why Mauch enters 2026 at No. 32 despite his previous production. Wasserman believes he has "a realistic chance to climb into the top 20" this season if he can remain healthy.
Getting Mauch back for a full season would also be significant for the Buccaneers' offensive line, which dealt with injuries throughout 2025. His 2024 performance showed what he's capable of at right guard. Now the biggest question is whether he can stay on the field long enough to pick up where he left off.
